5.C. Recognition of Parks and Recreation Junior Leader Volunteers
Prepared By
Jasy Vorachit, Administrative Assistant
Summary
The Parks and Recreation Junior Leader Volunteer Program invites local youth, ages 13–15, to gain an
introduction to work experiences, leadership opportunities, and valuable jobs skill while working with
the Golden Valley’s popular Summer Playground Adventures Programs. Selected volunteers are
required to submit an application, participate in an interview, complete a background check, and fulfill
two assigned shifts per week, for 5 weeks, assisting with program set-up/tear down, leading activities,
and providing direction for Playground program participants.
The following individuals were selected for the program and fulfilled requirements to complete the
2025 Junior Leader Volunteer Program:
Luke Pearson
Natalia Romie-Guy
Drake Kato
Vivian Christensen
Julia Mathern
Gianluca Arisian
Knox Vander Werf
Lincoln Higgins
In recognition of their service, the City of Golden Valley extends thanks and gratitude for their hard
work. Each individual will receive a certificate of service in honor of their volunteer work.

5.D. Future Commission Planning Coordination
Prepared By
Greg Simmons, Parks and Recreation Assistant Director
Summary
Staff have identified three significant initiatives in the coming months:
Parks and Recreation Strategic and Comprehensive Plan
Golf Cart Storage Building
Civic Campus Planning
Each of these projects will require thoughtful input and advice from the Open Space and Recreation
Commission to ensure alignment with community goals. Staff are committed to coordinate timing and
engagement to maximize efficiency, while avoiding overloading regular meeting agendas.
To that end, staff are seeking Commission guidance on how best to structure involvement moving
forward. Specifically, staff are seeking input on whether Commissioners prefer:
To hold full Commission discussions on each project at key milestones, or
To form subcommittees assigned to individual projects, which would provide input throughout
the process and bring back recommendations or updates to the full Commission.
This decision will help us plan an effective and manageable meeting schedule, while ensuring
meaningful engagement and feedback on all three initiatives.
Staff welcome any additional thoughts or preferences related to timing, scope, or coordination of
these projects.
