C. ListeningSessionUpdates Commissioner Glass shared that the PEACE Listening session will be Jan 10th at FAIR School in Crystal from 6-730pm. Glass shared that PEACE needs to decide if police officers should be present. Glass proposed that we have 3 listening sessions. One for community, another for police, and the other for both. Commissioner Crosby asked for clarity about what PD leadership wants with this listening session. Williams shared that police are ok with coming without uniform if they are coming as community members, but if they are asked to speak from a point of leadership in police, then they would rather wear their uniforms. Crosby shared that we should be welcoming and inclusive of all identities that make up out community. Chair Gladney shared that he appreciates the PD leadership’s perspective. Commissioner Cisneros shared that we need to focus more on purpose and that if the focus is to build a relationship between community and police then we need to ensure both are present, but if the focus is to hear from communities that haven’t historically been at the table, then we need to center that. Chair Gladney asked PEACE if they would be ok with officers showing up without uniform. Commissioners spoke in favor of hearing community for the first listening session and for the next focusing on police officer voices. D. Support Logging Chair Gladney shared that PEACE has been supportive and collaborative in much of the city’s work. Gladney proposed that commissioners log the activities PEACE has participated in. Cisneros added that PEACE has supportive of many projects and initiatives that aren’t in their workplan. E. SubcommitteeUpdate Commissioner Cisneros shared the update on behalf of the Hiring and Retention subcommittee.
