GOLDEN VALLEY HUMAN SERVICES FOUNDATION MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 13, 1993, MEETING AT THE GOLDEN VALLEY CITY COUNCIL CONFERENCE ROOM
MEMBERS PRESENT: Don Anderson; Terry Mattson; Jeff Loeb; Ruth Heaner; Jack Cole;
Sue Virnig, staff laison;
MEMBERS ABSENT: Cal Stoll; Ed Hara; Gloria Johnson;
The meeting was called to order by Chair Jeff Loeb at 7:05 p.m.
1. The minutes of the meeting of May 17, 1993 were approved as mailed.
2. The 1993 YTD proceeds were reviewed. Proceeds are $5,013. lower than 1992.
It was moved, seconded and passed to send funded 1993 organizations a letter
by September 30, 1993, that the 4th quarter Foundation allocations are
estimated to be 20% less due to revenues shortfall.
3. The letter of solicitation proposal to Golden Valley businesses was discussed.
The concensus was to contin.ue the approach to ask businesses for contributions
to the Foundation. The draft letter will be mailed to members for their comments.
4. Foundation allocations for 1994 year:
a. It was moved, seconded and passed to base the 1994 allocations on estimated
proceeds of $45,000.
b. It was moved, seconded and passed to receive the Northwest YMCA Detached
Worker application. for funding eventho.ugh the application was submitted
after the deadline set for receiving applications.
c. The following applications for funding were reviewed and found to meet the
Foundation Guidelines for funding:
(1) Suburban Outreach To Seniors (Senior Community Services)
(2) Home Free
(3) West Suburban Mediation Center
(4) PRISM
(5) Northwest YMCA - Detached Worker Program
(6) Point N.W. For Runaway Youth
(7) Family Hope Services
(8,jr.catholic Charities In Home Respite Care Program
5. It was mewed, seconded and passed, to fund the organizations, based upon a
projectEfd estimate of proceeds for 1994 of $45,000, in the following amounts:
a. Suburban Outreach To Seniors (Senior Community Services) - $2,000.
b. Home Free Shelter - $19,000.
c. West Suburban Mediation Center - $1,200.
d. PRISM - $4,400.
e. Northwest YMCA - Detached Worker Program - $17,000.
6. It was moved, seconded and passed to place the application of the Catholic
Charities In Home Respite Care Program next to be considered in the event that
additional proceeds shall be received by the Foundation.
7. It was moved, seconded and passed that Point NW For Runaway Youth, Family Hope
Services and Catholic Charities In Home Respite Care Program, although all
worthy causes, are not funded due to priorities established and the lack of funds
being received by the Foundation.
8. The next meeting will be on Monday, January 10th, 1994. Two agenda items were
recommended for discussion: Funding from gambling casinos; Machine pull tabs;
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 pm.
