GOLDEN VALLEY HUMAN SERVICES FOUNDATION
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF FEBRUARY 14, 1994
Golden Valley City Council Conference Room
MEMBERS PRESENT: Cal Stoll; Jack Cole; Don Anderson; Sue Virnig; Terri Mattson;
Ruth Heaner;
MEMBERS ABSENT: Ed Hara; Gloria Johnson;
OTHERS PRESENT: Sue Gabrielson, Adventure Club
The meeting was called to order by Chair Jack Cole at 7:00 pm.
I. The minutes of the Foundation meeting of Monday, January 10, 1994 were approved
as distributed.
II. The 1993 Foundation proceeds and allocations of funds report was reviewed. The
proceeds collected are 21.4% less than the 1993 projections.
III. Chair Cole introduced Sue Gabrielson, Operations Coordinator for the Adventure
Club. Gabrielson made a presentation about the School District 281 Adventure
Club and it's mission and operations. She stated that there are 750 students
K - 6 enrolled in the Adventure Club of which 114 are Golden Valley residents.
Adventure Club students represent about 10% of the K - 6 students in 281.
The funds for the Adventure Club ($795.00) delayed for clearification as reported
in the minutes of January 10, 1994, were paid to Sue Gabrielson after her report.
It was moved, seconded and passed that the Adventure Club does meet the criteria
of the Foundation and should be considered for future funding allocations upon
the initiation of the Adventure Club request for funding.
IV. The attendance of Foundation members was discussed. It was recommended that the
attendance report reflect the "excused" members who were not available to attend
due to being out of town, other conflicting meetings, etc. The "excused" absence
would be called to Sue Virnig or the Foundation chair prior to the scheduled
meeting.
V. It was moved, seconded and passed to send thank you letters to the corporations
donating funds to the Foundation.
Follow up to the funding letters to corporations should be done. Four Golden
Valley companies have donated $200.00 to date. It has been just one month since
the letters to the corporations were sent out. It was agreed that a second letter
of followup should be sent out to the corporations not responding.
Further, the active service clubs in Golden Valley should be identified as to the
president and that a letter requesting $1,000 donation from each service club
should be sent out.
VI. Member Terri Mattson was thanked for her service on the Foundation.
VII. The next meeting of the Foundation will be Monday, June 13, 1994, at 7:00 pm
at the Council Conference Room, Golden Valley City Hall. As required by the
by-laws of the Foundation, any changes to the by-laws will be reviewed and
discussed at the June meeting. Any changes recommended will be sent to the city
council for their consideration.
VII. There being no further business, the Foundation meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm.
