GOLDEN VALLEY HUMAN SERVICES FOUNDATION
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF NOVEMBER 14, 1994
GOLDEN VALLEY COUNCIL CONFERENCE ROOM
MEMBERS PRESENT: Sue Virnig, Staff; Elissa Heilicher; Don Anderson; Vern Montroy;
Gloria Johnson; Jay Hoffman; Cal Stoll; Ruth Heaner; Jennifer Smith;
MEMBERS ABSENT: David Albersman; Jack Cole;
I. The meeting was called to order by vice chairperson Ruth Heaner at 7:00 pm.
II. It was moved, seconded and passed, to approve the minutes of the meeting of
October 10, 1994 as distributed.
III. Arts and crafts sale: 40 + applications for the 50 spaces for the vendors at
the arts and crafts sale on December 9-10 have been received. There are $318
in expenses to date for the PR banner and flyer advertising. Flyers will be
placed at high traffic locations and thru school kids, Golden Valley newsletter.
Heavy PR is needed about 2 weeks before the event. Flyers will be ready on
Monday, November 2ist.

Staffing event days
The next Arts and Crafts meeting will be Monday, November 21, Council conference
room, 7 pm. The agenda will be followup on the event discussion and the next
item below. It was moved, seconded and passed to accept Tupperware as a vendor
at the event with the provision that Tupperware will donate 15% of their gross
sales to the Foundation.
IV. Annual Fund Raising Events:
A. Solicitation of businesses letter: - Vern Montroy reported that a letter
has been drafted seeking business support. Each member is to read the
letter and critique it at the meeting on Monday, November 21st. In addition
1500 names of businesses in zip code 55422 and 54427 have been obtained.
The members should go through the lists and delete any business that they
felt should not receive a solitation letter. This to be reported at the
November 21st meeting.
B. Golden Valley board game: Don Anderson reported on a game board which is
designed to have businesses buy ads and also sell the games in their store/
business. The target date suggested for the sale would be the Winnetka
Avenue opening in the Spring. Concept approved. Deferred for further info.

C. Sweatshirts: Discussion was held and one sample reviewed.
Ruth Heaner showed one sample which cost $10.40 for 300.
Elissa Heilicher knew of another sweatshirt, heavy duty, with embroidered
front design which cost $17.
The target for the sweatshirt availability should be the Winnetka Avenue
opening in the Spring. The logo should be the same logo as proposed for
the Golden Valley sign on the Winnetka corner. (Teal with yellow gold).
The item was deferred for more research.
D. Foundation Golf Special: Gloria Johnson and Sue Virnig reported that this
is a done deal and will be published in the next City Newsletter for the
public to purchase from Brookview Golf Course.
E. Week long event specials: deferred to future meeting.
F. Golden Valley Cailiendar: The photo contest being run has received lots of
photo ~ntrys to date. Further discussion was deferred to the January
meeting when .cheryl Weiler, Director of Communication for Golden Valley will
be asked to attend the meeting. The target date for making available the
finished calendars for sale - August, 1995.
V. SOl(e)3 Status: Gloria Johnson and Sue Virnig reported on the details of the
Council/Manager meeting where this was discussed. The<:recommendations of
the city attorney were reviewed. Further discussion was deferred for
further study at a future meeting.
VI. Pull Tab Revenues: Sue Virnig reported on the pull tab revenues todate. As
of September 30, 1994 $27,984 has been received by the city.
VII. The next regular meeting of the Foundation will be Monday, December 12, 1994.
The next special meeting of the Foundation will be Monday, November 21st. Both
meetings will be at 7 pm, at the council conference room, city hall.
VIII. There being no further business, the meeting was adJourned at 9:10 pm.
