GOLDEN VALLEY HUMAN SERVICES FOUNDATION
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF FEBRUARY 13, 1995
HELD IN THE COUNCIL CONFERENCE ROOM, CITY HALL
MEMBERS PRESENT: Sue Virnig, staff laison; Don Anderson; Robert Blenkush;
Ruth Heaner; Councilmember Gloria Johnson; Jack Cole; Bob Lang; David Albersman;
Elissa Heilicher;
MEMBERS ABSENT: Jay Hoffman; Cal Stoll; Jennifer Smith;
OTHERS PRESENT: Golden Valley Director of Public Safety Dean Mooney;
1. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM be chair Jack Cole.
II. It was moved, seconded and passed to approve the minutes of the meetings
of December 12, 1994 and January 9, 1995.
III. Director Mooney addressed the members of the Foundation on the background
of city support to human service agencies of Home Free Shelter Domestic
Abuse program and the YMCA - Detached Worker program.
A. It was moved, seconded and passed, to fund the Home Free Shelter
Domestic Abuse program and the YMCA Detached Worker program as the
first and second funding priority of the funds of the Foundation,
contingent upon an annual review of the agencies.
B. It was moved, seconded and passed to re-allocate the added 1994
revenues received to Home Free Shelter Domestic Abuse program (42%;
YMCA - Detached Worker program (37%); PRISM (11%); Senior Community
Services (5%); and West Suburban Mediation Center (4.5%); totalling
$8,284.64.
IV. A craft and arts sale will be held on March 11, 1995 at the "Old Georgia
Carpet store" from 9:30AM to 5:00PM. Crafter set up starts at 6:30AM.
A. Total crafter exhibitors signed up to date - 30.
B. A letter will be sent to craft exhibitors with details of instructions.
Such items as whereto park, Foundation having the final decision on
who can be approved as a.craft exhibitor, etc.
C. Watkins Products and Mary Kay products were approved as exhibitors
by concensus.
D. An ad will be run in the Post metro edition promoting the sale.
E. Orange craft sale direction signs will be placed at appropriate entrance
locations.
F. Foundation members clean up the store time will be 6:30PM, Thursday,
March 9th.
G. The store windows will be painted by the art school with "Spring type
designs".
H. Food:
The following items will be made available for sale at the show:
Coffee, lemonade, popcorn, hot dogs and buns, 12 dozen cookies, rolls
and donuts (4 doz), napkins, mustard and ketchup.
Tee shirt and note cards will be sold by the Foundation members. A
table will be obtained from the Park and Recreation Dept.
I. Flyers advertising the show are made and will be distributed to
retailers to place at the front of their respective stores.

V. Tee shirts will be purchased at $3.90 each with a Golden Valley 1995 logo.
1,000 will be ordered in large, extra large and XX large. Passed by
concensus. The shirts will be sold at $8.00 for large, 9. for extra large
and 10. for XX large.
VI. Note cards using the Golden Valley photo contest photos was approved by
concensus with 1,000 of each (4,000) cards on glossy face paper with
envelopes. They are to be sold for $3.00 for a package of 4, including
the sales tax.
VII. The following items on the agenda were deferred to a future meeting:
A. Survey Results-Decision Resources and North Hennepin Human Services
B. Annual Fundraising Event Reports:
1. Golden Valley board game - David Albersman, Chair.
C. Other fundraisers:
1. Solicitation letter
2. Grand opening of Winnetka Avenue-sweatshirtsjpopjcalendars
3. Week long event specials
4. 1996 calendar
VIII. The next meeting will be Monday, March 6, 1995, 7 PM, Council Conference
room with the major focus on the final details of the arts and crafts
show.
IX. There being no further business conducted due to the lateness of the hour,
the meeting was adjourned at 9:20 PM.
