MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF MONDAY,JULY 10, 1995
GOLDEN VALLEY COUNCIL CONFERENCE ROOM
MEMBERS PRESENT: Sue Virnig, staff liaison; Don Anderson; Homer Erickson, representing
the Human Rights Commission; Bob Blenkush; Gloria Johnson; Jack Cole;
MEMBERS ABSENT: Jay Hoffman; Bob Lang; Elissa Heilicher; Jennifer Smith; David
Albersman; Ca.l Stoll;
L Thee meeting was called to order at 7: 10 PM by Chair Jack Cole.
2. Gloria Johnson moved, seconded by Bob Blenkush, to approve the minutes of the
meeting of May 8, 1995, as distributed, with one correction of substituting
Bob Lang for Bob Blenkush as being the contact person to call upon By~rlys for
the T shirt and note card point of sale.
3. T shirt sales report: Sue Virnig reported that T shirt sales are totalling
$1,684.00 and note cards receipts are near $300. The GV park and recreation
department purchased 4 dozen T shirts.
General Mills is not available to the Foundation as a site for point of sale of
the T shirts as GM pushes only United Way to their employees.
Don Anderson will contact the manager of Byerlys to ask for a table for selling
T shirts and note cards during one week in July from 11: 30 AM to 1: 30 PM (6 days).
4. A discussion was held on the Foundation fund allocation policy which was pre-
viously discussed at the February 13, 1995 meeting. It was agreed by concensus
that the policy stated in the minutes of February 13, 1995 shall stand.
5. Other fund raising events were brainstormed as follows:
a. An outdoor event selling food.
b. A dinner with silent auction/raffle.
c. A city wide event.
d. Produce a Golden Valley board game to coincide with opening of the new
retail stores in Area C. (David Albersman has the sample board and all the
information and is to report his recommendations to the Foundation.)
e. T shirt/card sales at the Concert In The Park at Brookview. (Sue Virnig is
to contact Sue Cook at the Park and Recreation Dept to find out what other
organizations have asked to sell products at the concerts. The concensus
was that the Foundation should research the sales possibility and make
recommendations to the council as to a policy regarding organizations
selling things at the concert in the park events.)
f. A sales/food event in Area B.
g. Contact other Golden Valley corporationswho.have.foundations who may
entertain a request from the Founda.tion for funding.
h. Business solicitation letter. To be updated for current information by Sue
Virnig. Bob Blenkush said that the mailing names and addresses are almost
completed.
L A function at Metropolitan (Old Ruperts) catering in cooperation with the
Foundation for a fund raiser.
j. A street dance on a closed off street in cooperation with other Golden Valley
organizations.
k. A Golden Valley 5K run in cooperation with the Park and Rec Dept. to sell
T shirts. (Dean Mooney and Sue Cook will be contacted by Sue Virnig for
information and advice.)
6. The next Foundation meeting will be Monday, August 14, 1995, 7PMat the Council
Conference Room.
7. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 PM.
