GOLDEN VALLEY HUMAN SERVICES FOUNDATION
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF NOVEMBER 13, 1995
HELD IN THE COUNCIL CONFERENCE ROOM
MEMBERS PRESENT: Elissa Heilicher; Hilmer Erickson; Bob Blenkush; Bob Lang;
Sharon Mattison; Gloria Johnson; Jack Cole; Don Anderson;
MEMBERS ABSENT: Jay Hoffman; Jennifer Smith;
I. It was moved by Heilicher, seconded by Blenkush, to approve the minutes
of the meeting of October 9, 1995, as distributed. Passed.
II. It was acknowledged with thanks that the city employees donated $1,176.
to the Foundation.
III. Blenkush reported that the suggested golf tourniment at the Golden Valley
Country Club was not practical for the Foundation due to the costs and
guarantees required by the GVCC.
IV. Mattison reported that flowers.could be obtained from the Farm Cooperative
at 10% over their cost. She proposed having a one day flower sale to .raise
funds.for the Foundation. Heilicher moved, Erickson seconded to approve
this project with May 11, 1996 being the first preference and May 4, 1996
being the second preference dates, in anacceptabl~ commercial location or
on a city owned location. Passed with 5 yes and 2 no.
\; Heilicher moved with Erickson seconding to purchase up to $2,500 in flowers
at the Cooperative.. price. Passed.
The location of the site of sale was deferred until the next meeting to
allow Mattison, who was appointed chair of the project, to contact several
persons for more information.
V. Virnig gave the members a report on the tee-shirts:
23 tee-shirts were sold on election day.
20 tee-shirts were sold at the fire department open house.
36 shirts being sold will bring the project to a break even point.
The next water bills will have a tee-shirt promotion.
Lang will research for new graphic designs and report at the January
meeting.
VI. The business solication letters will be mailed on November 14, 1995.
VII. It was discussed whether a grant application should be prepared for
the General Mills and Gannett Foundations requesting funds. Blenkush
will research these foundations.
VIII. The group discussed how a thank you should be sent to any company making
a donation to the Foundation. A thank you note will be prepared by the
members at each meeting of the Foundation.
IX. The next meeting will be Monday, January 8, 1996 at 7PM, at the City Hall.
X. Don Anderson announced to the members that effective on January 2, 1996,
his wife, Mary Anderson, would become the Mayor of Golden Valley, thus
creating a potential conflict of interest with him being on the Founda~ion.
He irldicated that he would be sending a letter of resignation to the Mayor
effective December 31, 1995.
XI. There being no further business, the Foundation meeting adjourned at 8:35PM.
