Meeting Minutes
Golden Valley Council Conference Room
Members Present: Bob Blenkush, Joyce Doerffler, Hilmer Erickson, Jay
Hoffman, Gloria Johnson, Bob Lang, Sharon Mattison, Robbin Rouillard, Duane
Wosje ~ staff liaison.
1. The meeting was called to order at 6:58 p.m. by Jay Hoffman.
2. A motion was made by Hilmer E. to accept the meeting minutes of April 8,
1996. The motion was seconded by Bob B. Motion passed.
3. Election of Officers.
A motion was made by Gloria Johnson, seconded by Hilmer Erickson.
Motion passed. The following individuals were nominated and elected:
Chair Jay Hoffman
Vice Chair Bob Blenkush
Secremry Bob Lang
4. Discussion of Fund-raisers
A. Flower Sale -- Sharon Mattison
a. Sharon M. will do more aggressive marketing in 1997, if we
hold this sale again.
b. Sharon M. will recap the results at next months meeting..
c. The plants were not sold out. The nursery took back (27) flats.
d. Discussion regarding the sale next year.
B. Tee-shirt Sale -- BQb Lang
a. The board was generally pleased with the fmal design.
b. Distribution:
1. Photo Fast - Sue V. says they will purchase for their
employees and sell them from their store again this year.
2. Brookview Community Center - Joyce D. will contact them.
3. Byerly's - SharonM. will contact them.
4. Trach Center (Winnetka and Hwy.. 55) - Joyce D. will
contact store owners.
5. Pull-tab locations were suggested.
6. Corporate locations: i.e.: General Mills - Robbin R.
volunteered.
C. Fun Run -- Sue Virnig
a. Discussion to cancel June meeting because of conflicts with
other activities in June. No decision made to do so.
b. Passed around a sign-up for volunteers to work on the Fun Run
sub-committee.

D. City Auction -- Sue Virnig
a. The city auction is being held on Saturday, June 8,1996. The
GVHSF has been asked if we would like to be a food vendor
for this event. A decision was made not to work this event.
D. Post Office Open House -- Sue Virnig
a. The new post office is holding their grand opening on
Wednesday, June 19, 1996. The GVHSF will set up a tee-shirt
table for this event. A sign-up sheet was passed around asking
for volunteers. Sue V. will ask the post office if they will
purchase tee-shirts for their employees.
F. Board Game -- Gloria Johnson
a. Gloria J. called Wilmerding, MA (pop. 2,000) to get their
response to the success of the game for their community. It was
regarded as successful. The organizer sold space to 34 of the
42 businesses in Wilmerding at $60.00/ea. for side spaces and
$150.00/ea. for comers.
b. A minimum of 700 games would need to be ordered.
c. Don Anderson had seen this game advertised in the national
Rotary magazine.
d. It was determined that the advertisers would generate $9,945.00
in revenue for the manufacturer, based on (34) ads at $294.00
per ad.
e. It was suggested the game be sold for $19.95 each, similar to
games in department stores. There was discussion as to who
would be the customer for the game.
f. It was determined that if we decide to do the game as a fund-
raiser, the manufacturer would need to ship by September 25,
1996 to make the grand opening of Golden Valley Commons.
8. The next meeting will be held Monday, June 10, 1996, at 7:00 p.m. at City
Hall. The Game Board Committee will make a further report.
9. At 9:04, the motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Hilmer Erickson.
