Northwest Suburban Dinner at Your Door presentation: Kay Sverkerson presented general
information regarding the food distribution program. The mission is to provide good food to those shut
ins who are unable to shop and cook for themselves. The program started out of North Memorial Hospital
in 1972 and has grown to serving 750 meals each week with 18 volunteers/drivers each day. Food is
prepared at 3 locations, North Memorial, Crystal Community Center and the Good Samaritan Center.
There are 28 churches which supply funding and volunteers for the program.
All funds are privately raised and the program supports New Hope, Crystal, Golden Valley, and
Robbinsdale. The core staff is 3 part time employees and 4 board members who have been involved since
the program started. One of the reasons the program is so necessary is due to the elimination of Meals on
Wheels in the north suburbs. The base cost per meal is $3.25
Foundation Members reaffirmed their previous $1,500.00 commitment to supporting this program.
Golf Tournament: The date of September 12th was confirmed as the course is available on that date.
Robbin will work with Sue to send a postcard out to past participants announcing the date and the
tournament. Discussed the potential of including a sticker for the calendar.
Other pre-event issues such as a newsletter announcement were discussed. Sue has the database of
sponsors and participants but only with the sponsors addresses.
Robbin will work with Sue on creating a brochure on behalf of the Foundation which can be used for all
needs relating to the communication of the group and the benefactors of the funds raised. There is one in
process and Sue and Robbin will work together to present a mock up to the group at out next meeting.
Walk Run Event: Discussed timing of the event and possibility of moving it to a spring date. Calendars
were reviewed and the potential date of Saturday, May 2nd was discussed. Sharon will check with schools
and other organizations for conflicts with other events on that particular Saturday.
Other fund raising events: Various other ideas were discussed in a brainstorming fashion including a
car raflle conducted at the GV Spring Open House and a restaurant promotion. The restaurant promotion
requests that local restaurants designate a % of the sales for a particular night to the foundation.
Continued discussion on fund raising ideas.
