Golden Valley City Council Room
Members Present: Hilmer Erickson, Karen Neis, Terri DeVeau, Elissa Heilicher, Gloria Johnson and
Sue Virnig, Staff Liaison.
Members Absent: Carolyn Fiterman, Mary Anne Moore, and Helen Bassett
Call to Order: Elissa called the meeting to order at 7:09 p.m.
Election of Chair for the Foundation: The election of a chair to replace Jeff Hanson was tabled to a
future meeting. We want to include the new members of the GVHSF in the election process. We
discussed recruiting people from area churches and businesses. All potential members must fill out an
application form, be interviewed, and formally appointed to the board by city officials.
Approval of July Minutes: Teri DeVeau moved and Elissa seconded approval of the July minutes.
The motion passed unanimously.
IGolf Tournament:1
Sponsorship and Participation -September 25, 1999 at 8:30 a.m. at Brookview Golf Course. We
reviewed last year's sponsors. We need two more hole sponsors, minimum contribution of $500. Last
year we had approximately 15 hole sponsors. Elissa will order the crystal markers for the corporate
sponsors. The markers will cost approximately $130 each. We also need to start recruiting golfers
for the event. Last year we had 104 participants, and this year we would like full participation at 128.
It will cost $60 per golfer.
Door Prizes and Awards - Board members are in the process of procuring door prizes from last year's
list of donors. We have very few donations at this time. Karen will send out letters to approximately
20 of last year's donors. Also, all board members should be making phone calls to businesses for
donations. Some gifts have been received at this time. We need small gifts to give to each golfer. If
anyone knows of a resource, please follow up. It was decided that prizes will be awarded to the
foursomes who finish 1 st, 2nd, 3rd, and 20th. The use of mulligans was discussed. Apparently one team
last year took mulligans, but did not purchase any extra shots. Another team complained. Teri will
call the team in question to inform them oflast year's problem. We may replace purchasing mulligans
with another game in order to avoid controversy in this year's event. A final decision will be made at
next month's meeting.
Food- We need donuts and dessert for the breakfast and luncheon. Paperware is also needed. Let
Elissa know if you have any options.
Volunteers- A minimum of 12 volunteers are needed to be on the course during the event. Hilmer
and his wife will volunteer. Elissa and Gloria will take care of the food. Shifts for volunteers are:
8:30 a.m. - 11 :30 a.m. and 11 :20 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. Sue will send out a volunteer opportunity listing
with next month's agenda. GVHSF members should be at the course by 8:00 a.m.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
