Minnesota infer fat+h Darfur Coallf ion
Dear Community Partner,
The State of Minnesota will be in the world spotlight for four days in September. This unique,
one-time opportunity to heighten international awareness about the genocide in Darfur will occur
during a national political convention held in St. Paul fiom September 1-4. We will truly have
the eyes and ears of the world focused on us, and we can more effectively make the plea to end
the genocide in Darfur.
Minnesotans have a long and noble tradition of standing up against injustice. What we envision is
a gathering of Minnesotans from all sectors of civil society to take a stand against the genocide in
Darfur. We invite you to join with representatives of many nongovernmental organizations and
faith -based institutions at a meeting to strategize for a September event we're calling "Listening
to the Cry of the Oppressed."
Your organization and its members are a crucial part of our community. Please lend your voice
to our planning. To date, we have representatives from the following organizations assisting in
the planning: Minnesota Interfaith Darfur Coalition, Jewish Community Relations Council,
Minnesota Council of Cinirches, Basilica of Saint Mary, Shir Tikvah Congregation, Temple
Israel., Adath Jeshurun Congregation, University of Minnesota Hun= Rights Center, The
Advocates for Human Rights &rrrrerly Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights), The United
Nations Association of Minnesota, STAND (an anti -genocide student coalition at the University
of Minnesota), and Genocide Intervention Network — Minnesota.
Please add your name to that list and join us on:
Thursday, April 24
7:00 p.m. — 9:00 p.m.
Minnesota Council of Churches
122 W. Franklin Ave.
Minneapolis, MN 55404
To confu-m your attendance at this planning meeting, please email me at
s lu aser@templeisrael.com or call me at (612) 374-0320.
Help us stand up for the people of Darfur while the eyes of the world are watching!
Sincerely,
gc- *___11
