OTHER BUSINESS � I y MINUTES OF THE GOLDEN VALLEY � PLANNING COMMISSION November 27, 1989 A regular meeting of the Planning Commission was held in the conference room of the City Manager's Office at 7711 Country Club Drive, Golden Valley, Minnesota. The Meeting was called to order by Chair Prazak at 7:12P.M. Those present were Commissioners Prazak, Leppik, McCracken-Hunt, Russell , Kapsner, Lewis and McAleese. Also present were Mark Grimes, Director of Planning and Development, Beth Knoblauch, City Planner and Mary K. Dold, Secretary. I . APPROVAL OF MINUTES - September 11, 1989, October 23, 1989. It was moved by Commissioner Lewis, seconded by Commissioner Kapsner and carried unanimously to approve the minutes of the regular September ll and October 23, 1989, Planning Commission Meetings. II . REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF I-394 CORRIDOR STUDY OUTLINE. Staff presented an outline for review and approval of Suggested I-394 � Corridor Study Tasks. Beth Knoblauch presented maps showing soil condi - tions along the I-394 Corridor. Mark Grimes discussed designing urban corridors and asked the commissioners to respond at a later meeting on what our goals and standards on corridors should be and what do we want located in the corridor: business, high density, residential , office, etc. III . REPORTS ON MEETINGS OF THE HOUSING AND REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY CITY COUNCIL, AND BOARD OF ZONING PPEALS. No reports were presented. IV. OTHER BUSINESS. Mark Grimes stated to the Planning Commission that the Park Board would like to meet with them to go over Park Board plans for Brookview Park at the Park Board's January 22, 1989 meeting. Until further notice, Mark Grimes recommended that there be only one Planning Commission meeting per month, on the fourth Monday. Beth Knoblauch told the Plannfng Commission that Pizza Hut has decided not to locate there business at 723 Winnetka Avenue No. , Golden Valley. � The meeting was adjourned at 9:05P.M. MAJOR TRAFFIC S�iITCHBS SET OI�1 I-394 MINNEAPOLIS (December 1, 1989)--I-394 mainline traffic uill be switched in tWO noves onto newly built three-lane frontage roads between Turners Crossroad and Winnetka Ave. next week, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced. These frontage roads will provide turn lanes at intersections and driveways, allowing motorists better access to many businesses and residential areas along the I-394 corridor . The switches will allow construction to begin on new mainline I-394 � between Turners Crossroad and Winnetka Ave. , and will remain in effect at least until next summer. Highway officials uarned that severe weather in the next few days could delav the traffic switches. The first switch will occur after morning rush hour Wednesday, December 6. Traffic uill switch from mainline I-394 onto the north and south frontage roads between Pennsylvania and Winnetka Aves. Motorists will have a new, signali2ed intersection at Pennsylvania Ave. and Will still be able to cross I-394 at Turners Crossroad, Florida Ave. and General Mi11s Blvd. Traffic signals at Winnetka Ave. will be removed, but motorists will be still be able to enter and exit westbound I-39a at that intersection. Eastbound motorists will be able to enter and exit at Texas Ave. , �ust east � of Wfnnetka Ave. Motorists will not, however, be able to cross the highway at Winnetka Ave. -MORE- ,. ,. , � ,, ; _. ., . . F!`ifrl��E``�y�i�� UE.'[-���F'�(.` t !.: �i , . - � - fd � .G. _ . ... , .. � . _1 .. . . . . - , � e I-394 Traffic Switch � i Page 2 • 12/O1/89 Traffic signals at Louisiana Ave. will also be removed, but motorists will still be able to enter and exit westbound I-394 at Louisiana Ave. Eastbound motorists will be able to enter and exit I-394 at a new, unsignalized location just west of Louisiana Ave. Motorists will not, however, be able to cross I-394 at Louisiana Ave. On Saturdav. December 9, westbound traffic will switch onto the north frontage road, between Turners Crossroad and Colorado Ave. Eastbound traffic will remain in place. Traffic signals will remain at Turners Crossroad. allowing motorists to cross I-394 at that location. The Sane Lane will also switch to the north frontage road.
