The regular meeting o�' the Golden Valley Village Planning
, Commission �as called. to order at -the Village Hall on
Thursday, �ugus-� 13, 1953 at 8:00 P. N1, w�th the following
members pressnt: Lou.glzland, Patte�son, Rauglan.d, Lynch,
Velz, �,rn,ble, LaBissoniere, CTra.f'funder, Pal�er, Borchert.
`i�.e Minutes of the July raeeting were read and approved�
T�,�r, Fred Jones appeared to reque�� that �he Planning
Cormn�.ssion Plat Committee come in. the field with him to
consult on the proper location and ali�.m.ent of a drivewa�
which would be in line �ith t he ult3mate extension of
Brunswiek �,venue North. Falmer moved th�.� the Corr�.it�ee
comply with this req_uest. Motion seconded by Lyn.cYa, carried,
NTr. JoY�. F. Washburn, 5545 Golden Valley Road, appeared
to requ.est waiver of sideline requirement, to perm.it moving
h3.s garage nearer the road and to the road grade. Lyr_ch

I�r. Ted 'J'Jebb, 3317 Major Avenue Nor�:h appeared to request
�raiver of side line requirement to peY•mit �the building of
� garage and� braeze�uvay wit�.in 10 feet of his lot line.
� Velz moved that the request be denied because no apparent
� hardship runs with the land. Mot3,on seconded. bg Palmer,
carried.
Mr. Owens presented, for Mr. Russell Smith, a plat of Golden
Oal�s Third Addition. Palmer maved referral to the Plat
Committee. Motion seconded by Velz carried.
Mr. Delbert Dahl presented a request to place a 64 foot wide
house on a 90 foot lot at 1415 Spring Valley I�oad �.ecessita-
� ting a 7:3 foot side line se�back. Graffund.er moved re jec�ion.
P1o�io�. seconded b� Borchert and carried. Mr. Dahl was ad-
vised that he could resubmit the matter with ne� information
and a nevu proposal at a future meeting. Patterson and
LaB�ssoniere agreed to �o �ith lU�. �ahl to look a�t the lo�
in question. •
Mr. 3�ahl then appeared for 1�2r. 'Russell E. Carlson, 216
�'urnpike Road, Lot 6, Slock 5, Spring Greon, to reguest waiver
of sideline requirements to build �n attached garage. �lelz
rr�.oved referral to the Plat Cor�littee for study and report at
the September mee�ing.. Motion seconded by L,ynch, carried.
Mr. Leonard Jensen appeared to request re-zoning of h3s s'L-ore
buildin� at 7811 Sixth Avenue North from CoinmLU�.it�r S�ore �o
�ornrnercial, or from Commercial t o Ligh-t Ind.ustr3.a1 under �the

proposed new Zoning cetegories. Graffunder asked vuhg he tvanted
to d.o this. Jensen explained tha,t he felt tha't �here might
be �. ve�g limited possibility af using this building for retail
purposes when Jensen►s proposed retail center is completed
on the West side of Winnetka .�venue a� the Village Center.
Grafifunder moved re.�erral to the Zoning Committee for study
in relation to general zon3.ng needs of the V�llage Center
area. Motion seconded by Borchert, earried.
Mr. Robert Graham, 2075 Ordway Avenue, appeared �o request
vuaiver of' setback requirements in order to build a garage
and breezewag on the North side of his house which would
have to be 33 feet from his front line on Orchard .�venue
in order to provide clearance of an existing window in .his
house. Graffunder moved t��at the �va3ver be �rar�ted in vie�
of peculiar dif�'zculties posed by Veterants A�dministrat3on
regulations in this case. Motion seconded by LaBissoniere,

Mr. �iystrom and l�r. R�icha.elson, Homeland, Inc,, appeared to
present a proposed plat for Homeland �ddition �n,d to requ.es�
re-zoning of a parcel of' land �aithin this plat 250 fest deep
fron,ting on Uffayza.ta Boulevard. Graffunder pointed out that.
y�'a�za,�a Boulovard is .no�v clearly destined to be Corr�nercial �
by aetion of the Plan.n.ing Commi ssion. He t�.en mo�red to r ecom.-
mend that the proposed plat of Fiomeland �,ddition be accepted
including a parcel 250 feet deep parallel to �.d �'ronting o�, `
�'Uayzata Boulevard between the rear line of lots facing the
• west side of Utah �venue and the Brookvie�t (Superior) Gol�"
Course to be zoned Communit� S�a�re c�te�or�. Motion seeonded
by Raugland, carried.
Mr. C. J. Schwebach, 5804 Olson High�vay, appeared to request
that a side road on which he l,ives on the North side of Olson
13igh�avay west of the Belt Line be nam.ed Yoaerr�.ite l�venue. The
Comrflission decided �hat it should take no action un.til this
road has been accepted by the Village as a street. � �
Lynch, for the Pla� Coxmnittee, moved �o reco�mend denial of
the requ.est of Harrg P. Lucas presented at the Jul� meQting.
