MINUTES OF N1�ETIN'G OF SE'�'TEMBER 21.{., 1953
A sgecial meeting of the Golden Valley Village Planning
Comrnission was called to order at the Village Hall at
8;00 p.m. , September 2�., 1953� with the following members
� present: Palmer, Velz, Loughlarid, �atterson, Rydmark,
Graffunder, Lynch, �nble, Hall and Borchert.
The atatus of the revised zoning ordinance whicYt was
submitted b� the Commisaion to the Council in March, 1953s
was g,uestioned by several members of the Comrnission.
The members inquired wheth.er t his revisad ord3nance has
been adopt�d by the Village Council. If it has not been
adopted, the members expressed a desire to know what
further action onthe Comm.ission� s part is necessary for i�s .
adopt�.on. The Coramission members present expressed a
strong belief that the revision should be �dopted without
delay if it has not �ret been adopted, Mr. Loughland �nd
Mr. Borchert agreed to mee� �i.th the Village Mayor and
Administra�ive �ssistant in the near future to dis�uss the
progress of this ordin�.ce revision and other m.atters '
involving liason between the Council and Commission and
proc�edure of the Administrative Assistant and Corom3.ssion
in �he handling of routine waiver requests.
Ther� was an informal discussion of the question of poss3ble
rezoning of the 19-acre tract at the south�est corner of
t'�e Minn. Western Railwa� trackage and H3ghway 100.
General oppos3tion to this proposal w�s expressed because
of the problem of access to the Belt �ine in �n area of
very heav� traff ic. The zon3ng comrnittee was asked to
continue work on i�s reappraisal of the comrnercial a nd
� industrial zoning pattern possibility of rezoaing the
fbllowing areas: the �ravel pit propertg on �he we.st side
of Highwag 100 north of St. �roix Avenue; the vill�.ge
gravel p3t at the southweat corner of tho M.W. Ry. a�ad
Winnetka Avenue; the -area proposed for rezoning by the
zoning comnlittee in 1952, a� the "y" of the M.N. & S.
Railway south of i�eadowbrook Acres; an area adjoining the
M.N. 8c5. Railway which. is the quarter-section of land
on the southeast corner of the intersection of Medicine
Lake Road, and Winnetka �venue; the triangle between Hy.55a .
Sixth Avenue North and Mendelssohn �venue; the sou�heast
corner of Mendelssohn Avenue and Highway �5; and the
northerly frontage of Superior Golf �ourse. �
Th�re was an informal discussion of the question of
setba.ek along the trunk highwa�s through the village; and
there was general agreement that th.e setback requirements
need to be large. No �'igure was set as a result of the

discussion9 �nd the Highwa� Committee was instructed to
obtain a state hi�hwa� right-of-wa� map for �he purpose
of further a�d more concre�e discussion of the problem.
. R�dmark revie�ed the request of Mr. Glover, presented at
the Septe�ber 10, 1953 meeting, for the vacating of
Faribault Street between �uebec Avenue and Rhode Island
Avenue. He then moved tha t the commission recommend that
. this street be vacated in accordance with �he request
. with the provision that ths rights of a��r present pub73 c
utilit� in the street right-o�-way be maintained. Motion
seconded by Hall, carried.
Loughland, Patterson, and Borchert agreed t.o go as a
committee to Morrell and Nichols Co. to find out what
it would cost to bring up to dace the house, platting
contour, and road pat�tern on the village map.
