PLANNING �1�ISSION

A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Planning Commission Was held at 9:00 P.M.
on Mond�y, July 2b, i97i at the Cinic Center, 7840 Gol�den Valley Road, Golden
Valley, Minnesota.
Chairman Lundsgaard presided and the following members were present: Vice
Chairman Fran�en, Commissioners Anderson, Edstrom, Moran� Swanson, and Van Horn.
Also present was Consultant Otto Schmi.d and Recarding Secretary Jon Westlake.
Members absents Commissioners Christiansen and Neuman.
1. APPIi�DVAL OF MINUTES z M(}VED by Van Horn, seconded by Swanson� carried
unanimously� to approv� the minutes of the July 12, 1971 meeting as mailed.
. TOUR OF GQL�9�d VALLEY
The (3olden Valley Flanning Commission, members of other Boards ar�d Cominissions,
Carl Da1e of Carl 3?ale Planners, Larry Giesler of Midwest Planning and Research�
Inc., and Otto Schmid, Village Consultant, met at 7;00 P.M. at the Civic Center
to tour the Village by bus. The tour was organized to give the Planning Commission
a visible look at current and future problems of Goldeon Valley. The tour included
several segments of planning, including different types of zonings, land use,
landscaping as a buffer, r�lated uses, proposed roads, etc. After returning to
the Civic Center, all those on the tour met in the Council Chambers for discussion.
2. MI�WEST PLAIdI�iING AND RESEARCFi, INC.
(a) Goals and Policy Study Committee
The Plannin� Commission discussed briefly the working report as completed by the
Goals and Policy Study Committee. Mr. Lundsgaard, Chairman of the Planning
Commission, reminded the Commission of the meeting on Tuesday, July 27, 1971
at 8:00 P.M. at Brookvie�w Municipal Golf Course to discuss the report with the
Goals and Policy Study Committee which is in final draft for consideration by
the Planning Commission.
(b) Zoning Ordinance "Discussion
L�rry Giesler and Carl "�ale discussed with the Planning Commission the proposed
zoning ordinance for the Village of Golden Valley. Because several sections of
the new code relate to a specific item, the Commission was in agreement to request
Mr. Dale to assemble an index from the common zoning questions so that the answers
relating to a specific item could be readily found. Mr. Dale stated he would
have such an index ready for distribution at the next Planning Commission meeting.
The Chairman also asked Mr. Schmid and the Record3ng Secretary if they would list
the major differences betWeen the present zoning code and the proposed nex code
for the Commission so theq can better un�derstand the differences in the twa codes.

3. DISCUS3ION OF INTERSTATE-394
The Chairman informed the Commission of a letter he received from a reside�t
of Golden Valley informing him of a meeting to be held at the Prudential
Insurance building on Wednesday, Ju].y 28, 1971 at 8:00 P.M. with respect to
the proposed Interstate-394. �9ue to the deep coneern of the Planning
Commission, a discussion was held regarding I-39l�.
There being no further business to come before the meeting, it was on motion,
duly seconded, adjourned at 11.25 P.M.
