; April 23, 1973
A reg�l.ar meeting of the Go�.den Valley Planning Commission was held at 7:30 P.M.
on Monday, April 23, I973 a� the Civic Center, 7800 Golden Va11ey Aoad,
Golden Valley, Minnesota. �',
Chariman John Sampson presided and the followa.ng members were present: Vice
Chairman Mary Anderson, Com'issioners Becker, Edstrom, Herje, Hughes, i,eonard�
and Lundsgaard. Also prese�t was Consultant Garl Dale and Jon Westlake,
Recording Seeretary.
Members absent; Commission�r Chris�iansen.
1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES« �VED by Fdstrom, seconded by Her�e, carried
unanimously,, �t.o approve the'',March 12, 1973 �� March 21, 1973 Planriing Commission
minutes as amended. It was'then moved by Lundsgaard, seconded by Anderson,
carried unanimously, to app�ove the minutes of the April 9, 1973 Planning
Commission Meeting as amended.
2. WAIVER OF THE P'LATTING ORDINANCE
Gordon C. Johnson (Residential-3 lots)
9020, 903�, and 901�0 Duluth Street
The request is to divide two 150-foot lots plattEd as Lots i� and 5 Black 2
McDougall-Juris Addition into three residential lots containing 100 feet of
frontage at the 35-foot setback 1ine. The East and West lots have more than
the required 12,�00 square feet, and the center 1ot would be slightl.y less than
12,500 square feet. I�Ir. Gordon Johnson was present for the request.
It was �ved by Anderson, seeonded by Lundsgaard, aarried unanimously, to
recommend approval of the waiver of the Platting Ordinanee� subject tos
1. sending notiees informing the surrounding residents of the proposed waiver
when it is considered by the Village Council, 2. grading plan submitted to
the Engineering Dapartment� 3. West lot line of the proposed center lot to
connect at the angle point on the North line.
3. GENF�ZAL
(a) Sub-committee Report on Environmental Task Force
Co�nissioner Herje reported that the sub-committee has not met as of this
date to interview the candidates for the �nvironmental Task Force� but the sub-
committee will. meet May 1, 1973 at the Civic Center between ?:30 P.M, and
9:30 P.M. to interview twenty-two residents. The sub-committee, after inter-
viewing the residents, woul.d like to send directly to the Village Council those
names selected for the ne�ct Village Council meeting. Also, this list of names
selected wi1l be mailed to each Planning Commissioner member.

It was moved by Ec3strom, seconded by Anderson' carried unanimously, to authorize
the sub-committee to submit a list of thc�se residents selected to serve on the
�hvironmental Task Force direetly to the Village Council. Also, the Planning
Commission members will receive a copy of the same.
(t�} PQlicy for Moderate Housing in Planned Unit Development
Commissioner Anderson reminded the Planning Commission that this it�m will appear
on a Planning Commission agenda that is not lengthy as discussed at the
February 2b, 19?3 F'lanning Commission meeting.
(c} planning Commission Meeting Time Change
It was moved by Edstrom, seconded by Becker, carried unanimously, to ehange the
regularly sche�uled meeting time from. ?s30 P.M, to 8:00 P.M. beginning with the
May 28, I973 Pl.anning Commission meeting - beeause of �aylight Savings Time.
{d} Third Alternate for Board of Zoning Appeals
In addition to the Vice Chairman of the Planning Commission being a member of the
Board of Zoning Appeals, the Planning Commission is also authorized to appoint
three alternates to the Board of Zoning Appeals. Two alternates wera appointed
at the April 9, �-973 Planni.ng Commission meeting. There sti11 being one opening
�,rrarren Lundsgaarcl entered his name for the third alternate tQ the Board of
Zoning Appeals� which was unanimously aecepted by the Planning Gommission.
(e) Bus Tour of Golden Va11ey
The Planning Commission a5ked Jon Westlake to check whether the Village of Golden
Valley had a vehicle available for the purpose of a tour for the Planning
Cammission members or contacting one of the bus companies for a vehicle. The
toulr wouls2 be scheduled for 7:00 P.M. on :�Iay 1l�, 1973, and the Planning Gommission
r�eeting will then be held at 8:30 P.M. Ths Chairman of the Planning Commission
and Mr. Westlake wi.11 meet prior to May 1l�th and map out a route to follow.
(f) Reviewal o� Proposed Zoning Code - Sixth and Final Session
The Planni.ng C�mmission completed the reviewal of the proposed Zoning Code with
Messrs. Carl �7ale and Jon Weatlake, who also noted the changes. Mr �a].e and
Mr. Westlake will me�t and review those areas of the Zoning Code which the
Planning Commission wanted changed or further studied.
(g} Safety Co�neil Request - Informal Meeting with Planning Cammission
The Village Council set April 3fl, 1973 at 8:00 P.M. at the Civic C�nter to meet
�rnth the Golden Valley Safety Council, .Planning Commission, and Environmental
Commission with respect to �the future Transportation Plan.
There being no further business to come before the meeting, it was on motion,
duly seconde�� adjourned at 1�:1t0 P.M.
