MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE
GOLDEN VALLEY PLANNING COMMISSION
Apri1 3�, 1979
A special meeting of the Golden Va11ey Planning Commission was held at 7:00 P.M.
on Monday, April 30, 197g at the Civic Center, 7800 Golden Valley Road,
Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Mayor Hoover opened the meeting and the following Planning Commission members
were present: Commissioners DeSautels, Eastes, Edstrom, Herje, Levy, Sehlin,
Specktor, and Thompson. Also present was Jon Westlake, staff inember.
Members absent: Commissioners Hughes, Forster, and Polachek.
1 . INTRODUCTION OF NEW MEMBERS: Mayor Hoover introduced the newly appointed
Commission members to the previous Commission members which have been reappointed.
2. CHAtR PRO-TEM: Mayor Hoover cal }ed for a nomination for a temporary
Chair for the Planning Commission until officers are appointed for the remainder
of the calendar year.
It was moved by Herje, seconded by Specktor, to elect Commission Sehlin as
temporary Chair. Commissioner Sehlin declined, stating she would not be able
to attend the next Planning Commission meeting.
It was then moved by Specktor, seconded by Levy, carried unanimously that
nominations be closed and a unanimous ballot be cast to elect Commissioner
Edstrom as Chair Pro-Tem until officers of the Planning Gommission are appointed.
3. APPOINTMENT OF NOMINATING COMMITTEE
Chair Edstrom explained the duties of the three officers of the Planning Commission.
The Commission suggested that the Chair appoint a nominating committee for the
officers of the Planning Commission. The following were appointed to the
committee:
Commissioner Specktor - Chair
Commissioner Forster
Commissioner Levy
The nominating committee is to have their recommendations ready for the May 14, lg7g
Planning Commission meeting, including three alternates for the Board of Zoning
Appeals. Commissioner' Specktor informed the nominating committee that they
will convene just prior to the May 14 Planning Commission meeting.
4. COMPREHENSIVE PLAN: The Mayor reviewed a letter addressed to the
Planning Commission members in referenee to the Metropolitan Land Planning Act.
The Mayor also reviewed what the City Council has done on the Housing chapter of
the Comprehensive Plan.
The Commission was informed the full Council will be meeting with the Planning
Commissian from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on May 14 to discuss charges to the
Planning Commission in reference to planning seminars, Comprehensive Plan, and
the Housing chapter of the Comprehensive Plan.

There being no further business to come before the meeting, it was on motion,
duly seconded, adjourned at 8: 15 P.M.
