MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
PARK BOARD
VILLAGE OF TOLDEN VALLEY
August 11, 1948
The Park Board of the Village of Golden Valley met in regular meeting ROLL CALL
at the Village Hall at 8:00 P.M. on August 11, 1948. In attendance
were: Mrs. Seeman, Mr. Moes, and Mrs. Arms.
The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. MINUTES
The regular order of business was set aside to accomodate the BELMONT PARK
audience composed of residents of the Belmont Park area.
Mr. Ralph Jongeward, acting as spokesman for the residents of
Belmont Park area, stated that they hoped the Park Board did not
intend to develop the Park according to the Chester Bird Post plans.
He pledged their support to help financially and other ways to further
the development of the area.
Mr. Foss inquired into the possibility of having a skating rink
available in the park for this winter. Mr. Jongeward offered to
donate the lumber for a warming house and stated that he and his
neighbors would build it. The Board plans to provide the rink if at
all possible.
The Village Clerk administered the oath of office to the three OATH OF OFFICE
members of the Park Board.
The Vice President reported that he was unable to determine whether ASSESSMENTS
this Board has the power to assess properties for improvements. He COUNTY
did receive verbal agreement from,. the County Engineer that they would EQUIPMENT
grade the area if the Board paid for the labor and operating expenses
and would wait for their slack season which would probably be late
this fall. The Secretary was directed to write a letter to the
Council requestin;; a written agreement and also to request the use of
Village Equipment to haul and spread clay over the Park after it has
been graded.
The Vice President was requested to inquire about the best t;,,pe of BELMONT TILE
tiles to be used for drainage purposes at Belmont and the price of
same.
The President was requested to see if the residents near Belmont TILE
area would be willing to donate a length of tile each in order to
make greater progress in preparing the Park for public use.
Because the Commercial Club and Civic Club had at one time offered FINANCES
to donate money to the Council for Park purposes, the Secretary was
requested to write and ask them if they would be willing to donate
money at this time to b e used in developing Belmont Park.

TILE The Secretary was directed to correspond with Air. Arne Dentin,
asking him for an estimate of the cost of labor in laying the
tile.
PLAYGROUNDS The Vice President reported that the Ilinneapolis Park Board was
not favorable to the development of a playground at South Tyrol
Hills because its location made it impractical for the use of
the residents. They also felt that the small triangles in
Glenview Terrace were practically useless unless neighbors
cooperated and took care of them. They stated that the triangle
in Valley View Park could be developed into a playground pro-
vided it did not obstruct the view. They also felt that
further northeast, the tract of land could be developed for
the use of Minneapolis, Golden Valley, and part of Robbinsdale.
