10-13-19481 11 1 MINUTES OF REGULAR RIEET.?NG PARK BOARD VILLAGE OF GOLDEN VALLEY October 13, 1948 The Park Board of the Villaj.;e of Golden Valley met in regular meeting at the Village Hall at 8:00 P.M. on October 13, 1948. In attendance were: Tors. Seeman, Mr. Does, and Mrs. Arms. The reading of the minutes was dispensed with. ROLL CALL T,,INUTES 13 Because the Soo Line Railroad was unable to .furnish the tile previously BELTJONT PARK authorized, 300 feet of 12 inch concrete drain pipe at x.44 per .foot were ordered and received from the North Star Concrete Co. of I'ankato, ?,ti.nnesota. It was then found that an additional 150 fee; were needed, so Mr. Moes placed a telephone order at the Minneapolis office, 1401 Arthur St. N.E. Above action was approved unanimously. Mr. Moes was authorized to buy two second hand manhole covers for storm sewers. Mr. Arne Denzin gave ane stimate by telephone of '65.00 for laying the tile and building the sewers. A letter from the Golden Valley Civic League was read, offering X65.00 for park purposes. A letter from the `olden Valley Commercial Club was read, stating that they are interested in buying playground equipment and asking for suggestions as to where it could be placed. The Secretary was directed to inform them of the progress in Belmont Park development and to invite them to attend our meetings. It was directed that a letter be written to Mr. Stan Kane, Village Attorney, inquirinf; whether or not the Park Board has the power to assess, and if not, what sources of revenue other than the annual budget this body has. The Secretary was directed to write an inquiry to the Village Clerk concerning the 1949 budget for this body. A motion was made by Mr. 17ces and seconded by Mrs. Seeman adopting the followin, resolution: "WHEREAS during the 1947 session of the Minnesota State Legislature, a law was enacted for the purpose of making a survey of the various school districts of the State of Minnesota with the purpose in view of re -organizing such districts, AND WHEREAS, the principal purpose as stated in said law is to study the school districts of the county and their organization for the purpose of recommending desirable re - Organization which in the judgment of the committee will afford better educational opportunities -"or the pupils and inhabitants of the county, a more equitable, efficient and economical administration of public schools, and a more equitable distribution of public school revenue, CORRESPONDENCE ASSESSI`ENTS BUDGET SCHOOL RE-DISTP.T CTING RESOLUTION 14 AND WHEREAS, the Hennepin County Resurvey Committee has recommended that the Village of Golden Valley, Hennepin County, Minnesota be completely relieved of any school district which would be situated within the Village limits, and that all the school districts in T)lden Valley limits be annexed to either the Robbinsdale or St. Louis Park districts. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Park Commissioners of the Trillage of Golden Valley do hereby protest the action of the Hennepin County School Resurvey Committee as beint- detrimental to the best interests of the 'Tillage of Golden Valley, its school children and taxpapers, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we respectfully request the State Advisory Commission on School Reorganization not to ac;ept the reconLmendations of the Hennepin County School Resurvey Committee, FURTHER that it is our belief that any municipality with the area of the Village of Golden Valley, and a population of about 4500 people, with sufficient taxable value to support a school system without supplementary aid from the State o^ Kinnesota, and which has ample high school facilities available from the City of 2,,linneall)olis for a number of years, and whose potential future population is in the neighborhood of 30,000 people, should be permitted to develop its school facilities along lines that be of benefit to the inhabitants of thi.s municipality in the near future, we respectfully request that the Hennepin Coi.mty Resurvey Committee consider the school matter in Golden Valley from this point of view.'
