PARK BOARD
Village of Golden Valley
August - 1955
On August 10, 1955, the Golden Valley Park Board met in regular session in the
council chambers of the village hall. Present were Stockman, Gustafson and Ostroot.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
MSC that the dedication of Lion's Club Park be held at 10:00 a.m., Lillian Seaman
Park at 11:00 a.m., and Papoose Park at 12&00 noon on Saturday,September 10,1955•
RSC that $30.00 should be appropriated for the purpose of restoring the stakes
marking the boundaries of the Bergman property adjacent to Lion's Club Park.
LION'S CLUB PARK - The trees to be cleared before further grading to be accomplished
will be handled through a man under the supervision of Arnie Denzin, with assistance
by the Boy Scout 'troops.
PAPOOSE PARK - It was agreed to remove swing -set and back -stop for the purpose of
raising the grade with the fill that was provided by the sewer installations and to
save as many trees as possible. The work of installing the pump is scheduled for
September.
LILLIAN SM AN PARK - The lighting that was supposed to benefit the park has been
installed but two of three light posts are definitely misplaced. The matter will
be brought to the attention of the village administrator for correction.
BUDGET - This year we are making no request for SRA funds as we feel this par-
ticular item should be handled directly by the council and the SRA. If the council
feels this activity should be under supervision of the park board we would be happy
to serve, but the functioning and budget for this important activity should be
handled direct. We feel that SRA is doing a very satisfactory job and should be
encouraged and supported by the council and the residents. The following budget
is requested for the year 1956:
A full-time man for 6 months for maintenance of the various parks
A tractor for full-time use with park board equipment
PARK ALLOCATIONS
Golden Oakes - maintenance and improvements
Papoose - landscaping and maintenance
Lillian Seaman - landscaping and top dressing
- permanent pumping system and drinking fountain
(The Public Health Department will not approve use of our shallow
well.)
Glendale - landscaping and maintenance
Lion's Club - landscaping,,.grading and top soil
- equipment
Scheid - equipment
- landscaping and maintenance
Special Requests and development of newly dedicated parks
