Village of Golden Valley
January - 1956
On January 11, 1956 the Golden Valley Park Board met in regular
session in the Council Chambers of the Village Hall. Present
were Stoclman, Gustafson and Ostroot.
17inutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
1,ILLIAN SEAT. N VARIX K Due to the heavy use of the single skating
rink, the small children are from time to time being pushed off
by the hockey players. ;_ember Gustafson recoru.ends the use of
two rinks for next season, one for general skating and one for
hockey, the later being provided with boards and nets for a
regulation hockey rink. For this season, Arno Denzin and his
crew have started a second rink in the park which should soon
be ready for use.
LIONS CLUB PARI. * This skating rink is being very well maintained
by Arno Denzin and his crevi and is being used constantly by many
skaters from a wide area. The warming house has been abused more
than normal use would justify, apparently by older boys coming out
from the city or from some distance. Some necessary repairs will
be made and the village patrolmen will be asked to make an effort
to keep an eye on activities at the park. It is evident that a
recreational skating rink for the younger children and other
skaters is needed here also. The present rink is ideally suited
to conversion to regulation hockey.
PAPOOSE PARK * 16r. Paquette has advised us that the electrical
work will be completed by the week -end of 14 Januai-y. :r. Stoclmi an
will then contact P,1SY for power so the new well can be put in use.
SCHEID PARK * r,r. Hlady has completed installation of the well.
The rink has been flooded and is in use. yr. Stanley Erickson,
representing the Park Assn., attended the meeting and
requested consideration of providing a bench or two for changing
skates and also some park lighting. Iie indicated the group may
be able to furnish one of two of our standard tables. ',e will
explore other possibilities for benches and also the matter of a
street -light located near enough to be of some benefit.
Additional guests present were ;,yrs. Prestegaard and N rs. Quist of
the Golden Valley League of women Voters. They were interested
in securing general information about our park system and the may
in which the Park Board fit into the pattern of village government.
The next regular meeting will be held on February 8, 1956•
