Minutes of the Regular Meeting
PARK BOARD
Village of Golden Valley
January -1957
On January 17, 1957, the Golden Valley Park Board met in regular
session in the council rooms of the village hall. This being the
first meeting of the year 1957, there were present Mr. Ray B.
Stockman_ and Mr. Sheldon M. Ostroot, and also Mr. Wallace Gustafson
who was newly appointed by the Village Council as an Associate
Member for a three year term, and Mr. Edwin P. Uhapman newly appointed
by theVillage Council for the regular three year term. Also present
were Robert G. Corwin, landscape architent, Mr. Cliff I. A. Teresi,
Trustee, and Messrs. Chas Doel1M and Felix Dhainin# of the Minneapolis
Park System.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Mr. Corwine presented a comprehensive report showing the results of
his study of our park inventory and our future needs9 mapped out upon
a Five -Area Plan, for the village. There was general discussion of
the report and many welcome suggestions were received from Mr. Doelly
the Minneapolis Park Superintendent and Mr. Dhainin, his Architect and
Assistant. Trustee Teresi participated in the discussions and suggestion;
with the Board.
After reviewing the problems of existing parks and recreational areas,
and the areas where park areas are presently needed and will be needed
in the future with village population expansions, it was decided that
the Park Board would request a member of the Village Planning Commission
to meet with us and discuss and study our park needs, now and for the
future and oorrelate our program with sound zoning and planning programs.

It was also agreed to investigate the possibility of cooperation from.
the Golden Valley High School Board in future devolopment of the area at
the new building site, so as to serve the best possible purposes in
fulfilling community needs and park plans at the site. Mr. Chapman was
appointed to contact Mrs. Enghauser of the School Board.
Cooperation and investigation of adjoining suburbs and school districts
with regard to parks and planning which may overlap boundaries were
discussed. Messrs. Doe11M and Dhainin suggested that since Minneapolis
awns an area of about 10 acresn6ar the Northeast corner of our Village
there is a possibility of working out some cooperative agreement with
Golden Valley, Robbinsdale and Minreapolis to develop this area which
is suitable for the use of all three municipalities as a park area to
serve the people of all three under mutually satisfactory agreements.
The Board concluded to hold a special meeting at 7:30 PM on Thursday,
January 24, 1957 at the same place to continue work on the studies
preparatory to the presentation and recommendations to the Council
involving a request for an election on the question of bonding the
village for Park needs as the study may develop same.
The next regular meeting of the Board after the al meeting will be
