PARK BOARD OF
Village of Golden Valley
August 21, 1958 7:40 P.M.
The Park Board of the Village of Golden Valley met at its regular monthly
meeting at the temporary Village Ball, Thursday, August 21, at 7:40 P.M.
Present were Stockman, Byrnes, Oetroot, Petersen, Recreational Director
Reed and Recording Secretary Sullivan. The minutes of the previous
meeting were read and approved.
SUT.SM RECREATION PROGRAM:
The Park Board held a general discussion with Glen Reed regarding the
poor cooperation his Summer Recreation Program received from the Meadow -
brook School District, and the 100% cooperation it received from all
other sources in Golden Valley.
The Park Board held a general discussion with Glen Reed regarding the
lack of enthusiasm for the Dick Seibert Baseball Clinic. It was decided
the Park Board, along with Glen, would ask to appear on the agenda at a
Babe Ruth League meeting to inform the officials.
Pair. Stockman stated the Park Board and the Village of Golden Valley
should compliment Mr. Reed and his Summer Recreation Staff for the
splendid job they did this past Summer. 111r. Ostroot made a motion that
Mix. Reed be complimented on the organization of the Summer Program. Mr.
Byrnes seconded the motion. Motion passed.
There was a general discussion regarding this year's Winter Program, and
what portion of it the S.R.A. will handle. Mr. Reed will check with Mr.
Stan Anderson to see if S.R.A. will handle skating this Winter. b'Pr. Reed
was asked if he would work in an advisory capacity during the remainder
of this year. Pair. Reed stated he would. Yx. Ostroot made a motion we
employ Glen Reed on an advisory capacity for the balance of 1958,
September through December, at a fee of $50.00 per month. Motion was
seconded and carried.
There was a general discussion regarding next year's Summer Program, and
the importance of selecting a Recreational Director now to enable him
to have time to work out all details. Mr. Ostroot made motion that we
retain Mr. Reed as Recreational Director of Summer Program in Golden
Valley for 1959. Mr. Byrnes seconded the motion. Motion passed.
:::r. Reed stated his final report on the 1958 Summer Program will be given
at the next meeting, and he would like to have it presented to Council by
a Park Board member.
Mr. Reed submitted his 1959 budget request in the amount of $12,000. This
figure will be presented to Council.
LJR. ARNIE DENZIN attended the meeting to discuss his department's budget
request for 1959. It was decided we would ask the Council to approve
$9,050. for this purpose.
Mr. Denzin informed Board of dead oak trees in Golden Oaks Park, and
stated his department would see they are removed. The Board thanked
Mr. Denzin for the cooperation he gave the Summer Program.

There was a general discussion by Board of 3.959 budget request. 4 mills
should be asked for. The Board should have an automatic 5t�20,000. each
year to develope what it has. A December election vote for park
improvement was discussed. If the Council does not grant Park Board
$$25,000. to 150,000. from general funds for next year's budget, we should
secure their okey to run the Bond Issue.
MR. PMT DRESSER, PdZADOWBR00K SCHOOL BOARD:
Mr. Dresser complimented Glen Reed on his Summer Program. Tire Reed
mentioned his S =ier Recreation experience at Meed.owbrook. Mr. Dresser
suggested Glen present next Summer's plan to School Board. Mr. Reed will
do this after he has received his 1959 budget.
There was a general discussion by Board and Mx. Dresser regarding skating
rink, lights, poles and electricity. Ps. Dresser stated water and
electricity will be run out in general area.
M.r. Dresser mentioned lack of facilities for girls in his area, and asked
Board's thinking on a tennis court. He asked if Board would pay for one-
half of cost. He was advised the Park Board would hire Bob Corvine to
make a survey, but that a decision could not be given to him at this time
because of budget. I:x. Dresser, Pair. Corwine and Park Board will arrange
a luncheon meeting early in September.
?:R. GEORGE PATCHIN REGARDING THREE LOADS OF FILL: 11r. Patchin lives near
Golden Oaks jjl. His property is 6 feet higher than the Park, and he wants
fill to gradually slope this area into Park. He will sod and maintain this
area which amounts to 1,000 square feet. Isar. Denzin informed him we have
the dirt, and that he will take care of the matter.
A representative from Legion Baseball will be invited to our next meeting.
The Park Board has received a letter of resignation from Sheldon Ostroot
because of business reasons. In view of this letter, and with regret,
Pair. Stockman made a motion to accept Mr. Ostroot's resignation, and for-
ward his letter to the Ccuncil for due processing. Ifir. Byrnes seconded
the motion. Tiotion passed.
Dr. Ray Petersen was invited to the meeting, and asked if he would be
interested in replacing Mr. Ostroot. There was a general discussion of
Park Board activities. Dr. Petersen stated he would accept. His letter
of recommendation will be foniarded to the Council.
There being no further business, motion was made to adjourn the meeting at
11:05 P*M. The motion was seconded and carried.
