PARK BOARD OF
Village of Golden Valley
March 18, 1959 7:15 P.M.
The Park Board of the Village of Golden Valley met at a special meeting at
the Village Hall, Wednesday, March 18, at 7:15 P.M. Present were Stockman,
Petersen, Recreational Director Reed and Recording Secretary Sullivan.
Also present were Ulstad, Snetsinger and Denzin
Mr. Denzin informed the Board that because of great amount of Village work
to be done, the Board will have to rely on its own man, and will have to hire
additional help. Mr. Snetsinger will continue working with Board.
GLENVI37 TERRACE SKETCH: Mr. Snetsinger will prepare this sketch, which will
include soft ball diamond, backstop and hard surface area. Interested persons
from Glenview area will be invited to meet with the Board to discuss the sketch,
and then the Minneapolis Park Board will be contacted.
BALL FIELDS: The Board held a general discussion. Mr. Denzin stated they
could be ready by June, and suggested we invite Ray Sactor of Dundee Landscaping
to a Board meeting. The following parks will have ball fields: Seeman 1,
Golden Oaks 1, Papoose Park 1, Lion's Club Park 3, and Natchez 1. This is a
total of 7. Mr. Snetsinger will cross section the land with regard to fill.
MEADOWBROOK SCHOOL DISTRICT: The Board held a general discussion regarding
the a possib plaisement of a tennis court, and, also, the combining of a hard
surfaced area and hockey rather than a tennis court and hockey. Mr. Ulstad
will check with Stan Kane on the desirability of a working agreement between
the Park Board and the School Board, and to see if future Park Boards and
School Boards are responsible for the decisions made by present Boards. Tennis
Court representatives will be invited to meet with the Park Board and the School
Board. Specs will be secured on the following tennis court combinations:
1 double and 1 triple, and 2 doubles. There was also a general discussion on
the placement of a shelter in this area.
GENERAL INFORMATION: The Board will need bids on anything over $1000. It is not
necessary to accept the lowest bid, as it may not meet specifications. There is
a time limit of 30 days on bids. In addition to specs on Tennis Courts, we
will secure specs on backstops and 4 hard surfaced areas. We do not need bids
on standards and steel posts. We must secure surveys and bids on four parks:
Papoose, Lions, Natchez and Golden Oaks. There was a general discussion on wells.
They have to be approved by the State Board of Health. We will secure bids on
three 6" wells for Lions, Seeman and Natchez. There was a general discussion on
the contemplated storm sewer for Golden Oaks Park. Mr. Denzin stated his
department may be able to give considerable help on this project, and this would
reduce the cost of the sewer.
TAX DELINQUENT PROPERTY IN NOBLE GROVE: Mr. Ulstad informed Board there is a
7�O��special assessment against �thAs property. The Board is interested in
this land, but will table the matter for the time being.
RECREATION REPORT-. Mr. Reed and the Board held a general discussion. The
Board will arrange a meeting with Mr. Enghauser regarding his swimming pool.
Mr. Reed will investigate the South end of Sweeney Lake with the Minneapolis
Park Board with regard to swimming and skating.

LABOR FROM HENNEPIN COUNTY WORK HOUSE: This matter will be brought up at the
next meeting.
Mr. Denzin would like to discuss the purchase of paint at our next meeting.
The motion was made that the contact Mr. Bob Corwin to prepare sketches of
shelters. The motion was seconded and carried.
There will be a special Board meeting April 1, 1959.
There being no further business, motion was made to adjourn the meting at 10:15.
