PARK BOARD OF
Village of Golden Valley
December 16, 1959 7:00 P. M.
The Park Board of the Village of Golden Valley met at its regular monthly
meeting at the Village Hall, Wednesday, December 16, 1959, at 7:00 P.Me
Present were Stockman, Petersen, Reed, Snetsinger, Ulstad and Sullivan.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
RECREATION REPORT: Mr. Reed reported on the basketball, hockey and swim-
ming programs. Mr. Reed has submitted his 1960 $17,400. budget figures to
Mr. Byrnes. The Board questioned Mr. Reed regarding his possible additional
duties at the University. Mr. Reed will report to the Board after the first
of the year. The Board has received a letter from Brian Lawson, Summer
Recreation employee, stating a hernia resulted from his Recreation work last
summer. This letter was turned over to Mr. Ulstad who will give the Board his
opinion. Mr. Ulstad will send a photostat of Mr. Lawson's letter to the Board
for its files. The Board will write a letter to Mr. Kundla for his November
Basketball Clinic.
UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA RECREATION GROUP: Mr. Jon Rieke presented the finished
model and a written project report of Natchez Park which was prepared by Mr.
Dick Fischer, Mr. Charles Hines and Mr. Rieke. They estimated the project
would cost $100,000 for a completed park. The Board and Mr. Rieke reviewed the
model. The Board complimented Mr. Rieke on the work his group has done. The
Board will write letter to the three members of this group, and, also, to Mr.
Giles of the University. The total cost of this model is $32.00, and bills to
substantiate this figure were submitted by Mr. Rieke. The model for Scheid Park
will be presented to the Board at a future meeting.
BUDGET: Mr. Byrnes estimated there is $1000. left in the Board's 1959 budget.
The Board held a general discussion regarding the purchase of a vehicle,a
mower or hockey boards. The Board decided money would be spent for much needed
hockey boards and nets. Mr. Snetsinger will find out from Mr. Denzin the number
of hockey goals the Park Board owns. Mr. Stockman made a motion that Mr. Denzin
be directed to purchase whatever additional material is needed to furnish
practice hockey rinks at Papoose, Seeman, Scheid and Golden Oaks Parks. Dr.
Petersen seconded the motion. The motion carried.
JAYCEE'S: Dr. Petersen reported that the JC's will collect Christmas trees which
they will burn in Lions Park on January 9 at a Community Skating Party. The
Police Department will be present.
Election of officers will be held at the next Board meeting. 1960 salary letters
will be written to Mr. Murphy covering Mr. Denzin, Mr. Reed and Mrs. Sullivan
GOLDEN OAKS PARK: Mr. Snetsinger reported on additional land in the Golden Oaks
Park area north of Plymouth Avenue. The Board held a general discussion. Mr.
Snetsinger will secure additional information from Mr. Ulstad. The Board may try
an option here.
There being no further business, a motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 8:40.
