PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION OF
Village of Golden Valley
April 26, 1962 7:00 P.M.
The Park and Recreation Commission of the Village of Golden Valley
met at its regular monthly meeting at the Village Hall, Thursday, April 26,
1962, at 7:00 P.M. Board Members Present: Dr. Ray G. Petersen, Chairman,
Mrs. Laura Scheffler, John Byrnes, John H. Sullivan, Ray B. Stockman and
Max Green. Board Members Absent: Graydon Ewald. Also present: John
Brenna,Director and Patricia Lynch, Secretary.
John H. Sullivan moved the minutes from the March 29, 1962, meeting
be approved. The motion was seconded and carried.
Mr. Brenna introduced Mr. Davidson to the Commission. He came
concerning a piece of property connecting Wesley Park, which could be had
by paying $570.00 in deliquent taxes. It was felt the only advantages the
land afforded were a buffer zone of trees and an entrance axis angle. A
recommendation would have to ve made to the Planning Commission and the
Council. Mr. Davidson said he vuuld let the Commission know of his decision.
PION SENT PROGRA,i: The summer program will begin June 18 and terminate
August 10. , Baseball will begin a week earlier and a playground leader's clinic
will be held the week of June 11.
The Little League has 6 major and 10 minor teams. There will be
divisions of leagues from Pee Wee to Babe Ruth, within our program.
Swimming will be held at Twin Lake Beach. It will be scheduled in
3 week sessions from 8:00 to 1:00 P.M., each class one hour.
Tennis will be grouped into 2 week sessions.
Day Camp will be held at Lake Independence for youngsters from 8-12
years. Each week a different group will partake in camp craft and outdoor
skills.
Applications are being tarn for summer recreational employment.
Mr. Stockman stated he felt there should be some softball supervision for
those who can't play Little League. Perhaps after school sessions twice a
week which could consist of instruction and play.
PARKS: Wesley -fill, seed.
Lower Lions Club -fill.
Natchez -fill around lake
Woodlawn-Spread peat, cultivation, seed.
.&LL_ARLAS: Fertilized.
Mr. Brenna stated he had spoken with Mr. Ulstad about hiring an extra
man vho could be paid from perhaps the contingency fund.
Mr. Sullivan gave the schedule for Little League Tryouts.
With no further business, Mr. Stockman made a motion to adjourn.
The motion was seconded and carried, The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 P.M.
