Village of Golden Valley
February 28, 1963 7:15 P.M.
The Park and Recreation Commission of the Village of Golden Valley met at its
Regular Monthly Meeting at the Village Hall, Thursday, February 28, 1963 at
7:15 P. 11. Board members present: Dr. Ray Petersen, Chairman, John H. Sullivan,
Laura Scheffler, Ray Stockman, And Graydon Ewald. Board members absent:
Max Green and John W. Byrnes. Also present: John L. Brenna, Director.
The meeting was called to order at 7:25 P. M. by Chairman Petersen. lie then
called for approval of the minutes from the Regular Meeting of January 31, 1963.
Mr. John Sullivan moved the minutes be approved. Laura Scheffler seconded the
motion. The motion was carried.
The contract for the Golden Valley Municipal Swimming Pool was discussed, and it
was decided that Stage B be changed in accordance with the Village Attorney's
recommendations, and then sent to Larkin and Associates for acknowledgment.
John Sullivan gave a brief resume of the Special Meeting held on Wednesday,
February 12, 1963 for the benefit of those who were net present.
At this time Dr. Petersen brought forth the question of who will be meeting
with the engineers from Larkin and Associates, and the matter of whether we
should include one of our engineers. A motion was then introduced by John
Sullivan. That designated members of the Pool Committee, a designated member of
the Engineering Department, and the Park and Recreation Commission be set up as
the Construction Committee for the Golden Valley Municipal Swimming Pool.
Seconded by Ray Stockman. The motion was carried unanimously.
At this time the Park and Recreation Commission Rules and Procedures were read
by John Brenna and then discussed. The Rules and Procedures, with tcieir
corrections, are to be retyped and then submitted for adoption by the Commission.
John Brenna then read the Ordinance Relating to and Regulating the use of
Parks and Prescribing Penalties. Corrections were made on this ordinance, and
it was decided it be retyped and sent to the Village Attorney to look over and
recommend any legal changes or additions.
John Brenna then read the Organizational Structure and Responsibility Assignments
for Park and Recreation Activities. It was discussed thoroughly. The Commission
decided they should be included in our Park and Recreation Structure. Laura
Scheffler suggested that Ray Stockman and Graydon Ewald be selected as a
committee of two to go over the Organizational Structure and revise it to meet
the commissions standards. It was agreed.
At this time John Brenna read the Ordinance Establishing the Park and Recreation
Commission. Section, LL was questioned. It was decided it should be discussed
and gone over thoroughly at our next meeting.
John Brenna then gave us a quick resume of the Current Winter rrogram.
John Sullivan moved for adjournment. Seconded by Graydon Lwald. The meeting
was adjourned at 10:15 P. M.
