7-25-1963F� Minutes of the Regular Monthly Meeting PARK AND RECREATION C014MISSION OF Village of Golden Valley July 25, 1963 7:00 p.m. The Park and Recreation Commission of the Village of Golden Valley met at its Regular Monthly Meeting at the Village Hall, Thursday, July 25, 1963 at 7:00 p.m. Board members present: Dr. Ray Petersen, Chairman, John Byrnes, Max Green and Graydon Ewald. Board members absent: Laura Scheffler and Ray Stockman. Also present: John Brenna, Director, Gene Roepke, and the Summer Activity Supervisors. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Chairman Petersen. He then called for a^proval of the minutes from the Regular Monthly Meeting of June 26, 1963. John Byrnes moved they be approved. Graydon Ewald seconded. Minutes were approved as written. John Brenna then showed us how the development of some of our parks is coming. Natchez Park 1. All grading is complete. 2. Drainage system is complete. 3. Hand work will be started this Saturday, July 27. 4. Planting scheduled for September. Woodlawn Park 1. Final grading, manholes, and underground water system to be completed in approximetely three weeks. 2. Planting scheduled for September. Wesley Park 1. Fill needed. 2. Thinking of acquiring two lots adjacent to park. Max Green made a motion recommending that 14r. Brenna proceed with negotiations for acquiring fill for desley Park. John Sullivan seconded. Motion carried. John Byrnes made a motion recommending we negotiate to acquire the two adjacent lots afront on intersection on Wisconsin Avenue of Wesley park, at a reasonable price. Seconded by John Sullivan. Motion carried. Lion's Club Park 1. Park plans will be completed Friday, July 26, 1963 2. Grading plan will be completed by next Wednesday, July 31, 1963. Scheid's Park 1. Topoging will begin next week. At this time, Gene Roepke recommended a financing program for a swimming pool in the future. The Park and :Recreation Commission expressed interests in this proposal, and will think about it for a while. Mr. Brenna then introduced the Summer Supervisors to the members of the Commission. Heather Wurtele, the Swimming Supervisor, briefed us on the swimming program. I O Meeting - July 25, 1963 John Adams, Sr., our Tennis Instructor, explained about the tennis program and the upcoming tennis tournament. Mary Caldwell, our Craft Lady, told us about her very successful craft program. Mabel Pearson, the Playground Supervisor, explained all of the activities on the summer playgrounds. Tom Benepe, our Baseball Supervisor, went through his Knothole baseball program, which is going very well. Bob Lockwood, Day Camp Supervisor, told us about the booming.Day Camp program. Max Green moved for adjournment. John Byrnes seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.in. 10-91il"doil _ r V e -Chairman �7 -- 1 1 1 PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION 1963 Special Meeting ( Budget Meeting ) 7:00 p.m. Golden Valley Village Civic Center Board members present: Chairman, Ray Petersen, John Sullivan, and Laura Scheffler. Board members absent: Graydon Ewald, John Byrnes, Ray Stockman, Max Green. Also present: John L. Brenna, Director. There being no quorum, no official business was undertaken. Mr. Brenna did read and discuss the 1961 Park and Recreation Budget. The new Budget totals: Recreation Total $ 36,117.00 Park Total 35,335.00 Capital Outlay & 81682.00 Total $ 79,6b2.00 After considerable discussion, it was recommended for approval by the members present. Dr. Ray Petersen recommends that with so few members present, he would like to have the budget brought forth again at the regular meeting, Thursday, August 29, 1963, at 7:00 p.m. There being no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned at 10:00 p.m. Chair Vice -Chairman
