Minutes of the Regular Monthly Meeting
PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION OF
Village of Golden Valley
August 29, 1963 7:00 p.m,
The Park and Recreation Commission of the Village of Golden Valley
met at its regular monthly meeting at the Village Hall, Thursday,
August 29, 1963 at 7:00 P.m. Board members present: Dr, Ray
Petersen, Chairman, Max Green, John Sullivan and Ray Stockman.
Board members absent: Laura Scheffler, John Byrnes and Graydon
Ewald, Also present, John Brenna, Director,
The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. by Chairman Petersen.
He then called for approval of the minutes from the regular monthly
meeting of July 25, 1963, John Sullivan moved they be approved.
Max Green seconded, Minutes were approved as written,
BUDGET
Mr. Brenna then explained the 1964 Budget; inasmuch as the budget
was gone over in greater detail at the regular budget meeting
August 22, the highlights were now given.
The 1964 Budget totals as follows:
RECREATION $36,147,00
PARK 35,335.00
CAPITAL OUTLAY 8,200,00
$79,682.00
After discussion by board members present, Mr, John Sullivan moved
that the 1964 Park and Recreation budget be recommended for approval.
Mr. Max Green seconded. Motion carried.
PARK DEVELOPMENT
At this time Mr. Brenna brought forth current park developments.
Natchez Park
To date the park is complete other than trees and shrubs according
to our first year plan. The park has been finished graded, the
under drain is in, the underground water system is in, the water
and sewer connections are in, and the park has been fertilized and
seeded. The trees and shrubs will be in place by October 1.
Woodlawn Park
To date the park is final graded, culvert is in place on the North
side of the Park, the under drain is in, the underground water
system is in, and by the 21st of September the culvert on the South
side of the park will be in along with the water and sewer connec-
tions. The park will be fertilized and seeded, plus trees and
shrubs by October 1st. The above will also fullfill our first
year plan,
Meeting - August 29, 1963
Yosemite Park
The park will be final graded and an under drain installed this
year.
Wesley Park
The North end of the park will be final graded and an under drain
installed.
Lion's Park
The park has been topoged, and the grading plan established plus
the final layout. The initial work will start next year,
Scheid's Park
The topog will be completed and the park rough graded by freeze-up.
So, Tyrol Park
The topog will be completed by freeze-up. The initial work will
start next year.
It was the consensus of board members present that the progress
of our park system is doing nicely.
Dutch Elm
Mr, Brenna mentioned that all Elm trees in our parks have been
counted and checked for disease. The department is maintaining a
continuing tree sanitation program, whereby all trees are kept
clean of all dead wood and are properly pruned, Mr. Brenna
mentioned that at our October meeting we will discuss the Dutch
Elm problem,
There being no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned at
10:00 P.M.
