Minutes of the Regular Monthly Meeting
PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION OF
Village of Golden Valley
September 26, 1963 7:00 p.m.
The Park and Recreation Commission of the Village of Golden Valley
met at its regular monthly meeting at the Village Hall, Thursday,
September 29, 1963 at 7:00 p.m. Board members present: Dr. Ray
Petersen, Chairman, Max Green, John Sullivan, John Byrnes, Graydon
Ewald and day Stockman. Board member absent: Laura Scheffler.
Also present, John L. Brenna, Director.
The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. by Chairman Petersen.
The minutes from the August 29th, 1963 meeting were then called
for approval. Max Green moved they be approved. Ray Stockman
seconded. Minutes were approved as written.
FALL & WINTER PROGRAM
Mr. Brenna explained the following program for the Fall and Winter
season.
1. Swimming Instruction (Youngsters)
2. Swimming Instruction (Adults)
3. Volleyball (Men's League)
4. Volleyball (Men's Night in the Gym)
5. Basketball (Men's Night in the Gym)
6. Basketball (Men's League)
7. Basketball (Youngsters)
8. Dancing (Adults)
9. Slim Gym (Adults)
10. Senior Citizens (Senior Citizens)
11. Tumbling & Trampoline (Youngsters)
12. Synchronized swimming (Youngsters)
13. Football (Youngsters)
14. Skiing (All Ages)
15. Hockey (Youngsters)
16. Swim Team (Youngsters)
NAMING NEW PARK
At this time Mr. John Sullivan made mention that the Fred Jones
property seemed naked without a name. Mr. Sullivan brought forth
the name Hampshire Park, after explaining the park area was bounded
by streets with the name Hampshire. After very little discussion,
all board members present agreed to the name of Hampshire for the
Fred Jones property. It was then moved by Graydon Ewald that the
now existing Fred Jones Park property be named Hampshire Park. Max
Green seconded. The motion was carried.

Meeting - September 26, 1963
Mr. Max Green moved that we investigate the situation, and if
there is foundation, find out the reason why fill was being moved
into Bassett's Creek Park. The motion was seconded by Graydon
Ewald. Motion carried.
PARK TOUR
At this time Mr. Brenna explained briefly our Park Development
Program. Dr. Petersen mentioned that the Park and Recreation
Commission would be touring the Park system at 2:00 p.m.,
Saturday, October 12th. We would meet here at the Village Hall.
Also a letter will be sent out to the City Council, inviting its
members to be with us.
DUTCH ELM DISEASE
Mr. Brenna then brought forth information pertaining to the Dutch
Elm problem. Mr. Brenna mentioned that all our park Elm trees have
been counted, and a pruning and sanitation program is underway.
There being no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned at
10:00 P.M.

At this time Mr.

before the Commission
and asked
why fill
was being dumped on the
Northwest corner
of Bassett's Creek
Park.
Dr. Petersen did not
know of any fill
going into the
Park. Nor did Mr. Brenna, the
Director. Mr. Petersen
told Mr.
Kliment
that we would investigate
the situation.
