10-31-196321� Minutes of the Regular Monthly Meeting PARK AND RECREATION COIUUSSION OF Village of Golden Valley October 31st 7:00 p.m. The Park and Recreation Commission of the Village of Golden Valley met at its regular monthly meeting at the Village Hall, Thursday, October 31st, 1963, at 7:00 p.m. Board members present: Dr. Ray Petersen, Chairman, Max Green, John Sullivan, Graydon Ewald, Ray Stockman, and Laura Scheffler. Board member absent: John Byrnes. Also present were John L. Brenna, Director, and Cindy Olson, Secretary. The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. by Chairman Petersen. The minutes from the September 29th, 1963, meeting were then called for approval. Graydon Ewald moved they be approved. Laura Scheffler secon- ded. Minutes were approved as written. BASSETTS CREEK PARK Chairman Petersen discussed the fill that was mistakenly dumped in Bassetts Creek Park. He felt that it would not happen again and stated that the cost did not come out of our budget. PARK TOUR John Sullivan stated that the Councilmen were very impressed with the Park Tour, which took place on Saturday, October 26th. In general, the Council was amazed at the progress of the park system in the last two years. LION'S CLUB PARK John Brenna presented the layout plan for Lion's -ark. Mr Brenna discussed the playground equipment, shelters, and future expansions. The Park Department hopes to complete the grading, underground sprinkling system, and seeding next year. Chairman Petersen inquired about youngsters May areas. Mr. Brenna explained that the upper area would be unsupervised; and the lower area would be centered around supervised play. Chairman Petersen felt that two play areas was somewhat extravagant and that the tax payers might complain. Ray Stockman also felt that the two areas were unnecessary, and possibly they should not be separated. Mr. Brenna pointed out that the playground equipment was becoming more modernistic, and Max Green suggested that if the split play areas did not work, the portable equipment could easily be moved. Chairman Petersen felt that further thought should be put on changing the tot areas and finding an accessible area. He also would like to know the expense of the tot lots. Ray ,Stockman felt that the area set aside for the future pool ought to be out in use. He pointed out that 9011'o of the activity would take place in only 50% of the Park, Chairman Petersen concluded this discussion, stating that many new ideas had been suggested and it will be brought up again when more information is available. Fleeting - October 31, 19'3 SCHIED PARK It was pointed out that the people were impatient for the solution to the busy street and getting their children across. Ray Stockman said that definite lights were needed and something has to be done before 1965 when the park will be completed. It was agreed to send a letter to the Council and request immediate action. FALL AND WINTER PROGRAMS John Brenna gave a resume of the activities now in action. Fie stated that they were all quite successful. The football season ended and was also very successful. The basketball, slim gym, Senior Citizens, swim- ming, and synchronized swim are all in full swing. It was suggested that the basebsll begin earlier next year. Information on the skiing should be out within a few weeks. BUDG :a,T Chairman Petersen inquired if the full 164 budget had been approved. John Brenna said that he did not know for sure yet.
