2-13-1964226 Minutes of the Regular Monthly Meeting PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION OF VILLAGE OF GOLDEN VALLEY February 13th 7:00 P.M. The Park and Recreation Commission of the Village of Golden Valley met at its regular monthly meeting at the Village Hall, Thursday, February 13, 1961 at 7:00 P.M. Board members present: John Sullivan, Chairman, Graydon Ewald, Stanley Anderson, John Byrnes, Raymond Petersen, Laura Scheffler and Elroy Roelke. Also present: John Brenna, Director, Cindy Olson, Secretary, and Lloyd Roepke, Park Foreman. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 P.M. by Chairman Sullivan. The minutes from the January 30th, 1964, meeting were then called for approval. Laura Scheffler moved they be approved. Raymond Petersen seconded. The minutes were approved as written. DUTCH ELM PROGRESS REPORT Mr. Brenna recapped the current progress of the Dutch Elm Committee. On February 20th, seven Scout Troops will meet in the Village Hall for a meeting that will ready them for a Village wide survey. The survey will take place during the month of Marah. It is the Committee's feeling that a tree count must come first. Then certain recommendations regarding the . disease will follow. TAX DELINQUENT PROPERTY Mr. Brenna informed the Park and Recreation Commission of tax delinquent property that is available. Said property or Outlot 1 is located between Regent Avenue No. and Noble Avenue No. paralleling Bassett's Creek. After much discussion, Dr. Raymond Petersen moved that the Park and Recreation Commission acquire said delinquent property. Mrs. Laura Scheffler seconded the motion. The motion carried. BASSETT'S CREEK PROPERTY Mr. .Brenna brought forth that the strip of land bordering Bassett's Creek between C.S.A.H. 66 and St. Croix Avenue No. has changed from our previous proposal. The strip of land now affords a 300' width, whereas before we had a 50' right of way from the middle of the creek both ways. In view of this new development, Mr. Brenna asked the Park and Recreation Commission for its recommendation. After considerable discussion, Graydon Ewald moved that the Park and Recreation Commission recommend to the Village Council to acquire Lot 6, Block 1, Hipp's Graceful Plaza Addition, which we understand is in part 300' wide, for Park purposes. Mrs. Laura Scheffler seconded. The motion carried. PARK DEVELOPMENT Mr. Brenna brought forth a resume of our park system, explaining the over- all;picture. Mr. Brenna then explained the work to be performed this coming summer. Seven parks will receive development work. The parks are: Lion's Club, Wesley, Scheid, So. Tyrol, Woodlawn, Natchez, and Yosemite. 1 227 Meeting - February 13th, 1964 PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION Mr. Brenna explained the position of the Park and Recreation Commission as it relates to overall Village government. SCHEID PARK ACCESS Mr. Stanley Anderson asked what has been done in regard to a crossing on C.S.A.H. 66 for those persons living North of same. Mr. Brenna explained that letters of correspondence have been in transit Both ways with the Hennepin County Highway Department for over 2 years. The latest letter, received one month age, gave us 2 criteria to meet regarding an overpass. One is virtually impossible to meet,the other can be met. There also was the suggestion of a marked crosswalk. It also mentioned that we could contact Mr. Sim Fisher, their traffic man, and discuss the problem further. It was the consensus of all members present that we set up a meeting with Mr. Fisher to discuss the problem. TRAIL WAYS Mr. John Sullivan instructed Mr. Brenna and other officials as to the legality property. JOT_NT MEETING to check with the Village Engineer of Trail Way signs upon Village Mr. Brenna mentioned that a joint meeting of the Village Council, Planning Commission, Bassett's Creek Citizen's Committee, and the Park and Recreation Commission will be held February 25th, 7:30 P.M. at the Village Hall.
