Sullivan, Chairman, Raymond Petersen, Laura Scheffler andStanAnderson.. Board members absent: Graydon Ewald, John Bvrnes and Elroy Roelke . Also present: John L Brenna, Director, and Dolores Peterson, Secretary. The meeting, was called to order at 7:10 p.m. by Chairman Sullivan. The minutes of the August 27th meeting and the two special meetings, Septem- ber 24th and 30th, were called for approval. Laura Scheffler moved they be approved and Raymond Petersen seconded the motion. The minutes were approved as written. BOND ISSUE Discussion ensued concerning the forthcoming Park Bond Issue. Members present felt that our park development cannot be delayed. The presence of a pending possible municipal golf course presents a problem in that negotiations have not come to a head and possibly will not be finalized until after the first of the year. Therefore a possible bond issue would not be available until sometime next summer. In light of the above Chair- man Sullivan was asked to investigate the golf course situation so as we can act intelligently on our park development program. SCHRTD PARK Mr Brenna brought forth the subject of access to Scheid Park from the north. In past meetings with the county officials many ways of providing safe access across C.S.A.H. 66 were brought forth. It was decided that for the first year of operation of the playground advanced warning signs and pedestrian crossings marked in paint would be provided by the county, and during the supervised operation of the playground the village of Golden Valley would provide a patrolman or a. monitor to maintain the crossing at C.S.A.H. 66 and Regent Avenue North. The meetings also brought out that the possibility of a footbridge was indeed feasible. Earl Ainsworth, County Commjssioner, stated that we should send an official letter to the co,inty requesting such a structure so as they could include X number of dollars for the future bridge. At this time Mr Brenna asked Mr Sullivan to send forth.a letter asking for the inclusion of said bridge in their budget. BOARD MATTIALS Mr Brenna showed board members present an updated board manual describing the department's philosophy, history, structure, developments, projects, etc. Board members present brought forth their manuals and they will be returned completed at the December meeting. Ll Meeting - T•Jovember 18, 1964. WINTER PROGRAM Mr Brenna. brought forth a recap of programs that are presently underway. Particination ih all programs is very good. Boy's basketball, hockey, and skiing will begin about the first week in December. MEDLEY HILLS PARK A Mr William R Miller, who resides at 2300 Ensign Ave. No., will dedicate approximately 4 acres of his property adjacent to Medley Hills Park. Mr Brenna showed the•location to the board for their approval. All board members present approved wholeheartedly. SEEMAN PARK Mr Brenna made mention that the Seeman Park Garden Club had $130.00 available for Seeman Park. In speaking with members of the club regarding their expenditure it was suggested that a sign depicting the name of the Park and a. plaque in memory of Lillian Seeman, whom the park is named after be constructed. Garden Club members thought this a fine idea; plans have been drawn for said sign, and the sign will be in place come spring. Mr Rrenna asked for a motion for the above. Mrs Laura Scheffler moved that the Park and Recreation Commission heartily endorse this profect. The motion was seconded by Dr Peter,=.en. EXPIRING TERMS Mr Brenna brought forth the topic of expiring board member terms. Terms expiring this ,year are those of John Sullivan and Graydon Ewald. It, was suggested that names of interested persons be submitted to Chairman Sullivan before our next meeting so the board may act on new potential members. The next regular meeting will be held on December 10, 1964, at 7:00 p.m. There being no further discussion the board members adjourned at 8:45 p.m. to attend a Senior Citizens' meeting at Meadowbrook School. f ' Vice -Chairman 239
