12-10-1964240 Minutes of the Regular Monthly Meeting PARK AND RECREATION CON341SSION OF THF, VILLAGE OF GOLDEN VALLEY December 10, 1961 7:00 p.m. The Park and Recreation Commission of the Village of Golden Valley met at it, regular monthly meeting at the Village Hall, Thursday, December 10th, 1964, at 7:00 p.m. Board members present: Join H. Sullivan, Chairman, Raymond Petersen, Laura Scheffler and Elroy Roelke. Board members absent: Graydon Ewald, John Byrnes and Stan Anderson. Also present: John L Brenna, Director, and Dolores Peterson, Secretary. The meeting was called to order at 7:20 p.m. by Chairman Sullivan. The minutes of the November 18th, 1964, meeting were then called for approval. Raymond Petersen moved they be approved. Laura Scheffler seconded. The minutes were approved as written. 7?OARD MAT\7T ALS Mr Brenna handed all board members their revised and up -dated board manuals. Mr Rrenna stated that having our manuals current would indeed be a great help to new members in their orientation to the board. BOND ISSUE Mr John Sullivan reported. that the Village Council would do nothing officially concerning the Golf Course situation until after the first of the year. Consensus of members present was to wait for the council's move and encourage them in making a decision as soon as possible. TERMS OF OFFICE John Sullivan and Graydon Ewald's terms of office will expire as of 31, December, 1964. Chairman Sullivan stated that Graydon Ewald chose not to be appointed for another term. Candidates for the vacant position were asked for. Mrs Laura Scheffler brought forth the name of Richard Thorsen, 2625 Valecrest Road, for consideration. John Sullivan mentioned that at our next meeting we will send our recom- mendations to the Village Council. Also, if other board members had names of interested persons willing to serve, would they please submit them at that time. The commission will elect their officers at that same time. WINTER PROGRAM Mr Brenna stated that he hoped the weather would turn colder so youngsters could enjoy ice skating during the holidays. At present we are maintaining fifteen general ice skating rinks and three hockey rinks. All activity pro,,rams will cease operations during the Christmas Holidays. 1 24 2. Meeting - December 10, 1964. GOLDEN VALLEY HIGH - INDOOR POOL Mr Brenna mentioned that Mr Howard Casmey, Superintendent of Schools for the Golden Valley School District, talked with him regarding a pool in their school system. Mr Casmey mentioned that the school board had met with the parents of the Golden Valley swim team about the pool question. In essence, the school board will place the question on their May election providing the Village of Golden Valley would guarantee X number of dollars. Consensus of members present, we should meet with the school board and lis- ten to their proposal in more detail. Mr Brenna will set up a meeting as soon as possible. ' Mr John :Sullivan mentioned that due to the time element in recommending our new board member and the election of hoard officers before the last Village Council meeting in January, we thereforQ should meet January 14th.
