5-27-1965PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION OF THE
VILLAGE OF GOLDEN VALLEY
May 27, 1965
Regular Meeting
Board Members present: Laura Scheffler, Chairman, Stan Anderson,
John Byrnes, Ray Petersen, Gene Roelke, and Roy Yamahiro. Absent:
John Sullivan. Also present: John Brenna, Director, and Dolores
Peterson, Secretary.
Chairman Scheffler called the meeting to order.
Minutes of the April 29th Regular Meeting were approved as written.
SCHEID PARK
Mr. Brenna reviewed the Scheid Park situation. Discussion ensued.
Mr. Roelke reported that the Scheid Family is asking the Village
for $9,000 in damages. The Village has counter -proposed that,
that part of Scheid Park which lies north of CSAH 66 be returned
to the Scheid Family in settlement. This proposal seems acceptable
to the Scheid Family. However, the Committee, headed by Mr. Roelke
felt: "Aside from legalities; 1) the land seems to have potential -
for trees, picnic tables, swings, horseshoes, etc. 2) Since the
problem of crossing CSAH No. 66 exists, why not make use of this
side or at least retain it for footbridge area and "collecting spot."
Much discussion followed this report. A motion by Mr Roelke,
seconded by Mr Anderson, to advise the Council: "Whereas to dis-
pose of that property would appear to substantially diminish the
possibility of construction of a footbridge in the near future,
therefore, be it resolved that Scheid Park property north of CSAH
No. 66 be retained as park property for development as may be deemed
desireable in the future." Carried unanimously.
SUMMER PROGRAM
Mr. Brenna reviewed the summer program schedule and reported that
the Golden Valley Bulletin, which came out this week, announced
the summer program and will be given to school children the last
week of school.
BOND ISSUE DEVELOPMENT
Mr Brenna reviewed developments to date, including paper articles
and neighborhood meetings. He reported that for the most part, the
issue had been received with good enthusiasm.
Mrs. Scheffler brought forth a suggestion that information on
absentee ballots be given to the public for the benefit of those
who may be on vacation and out of town on June 29th. It was decided
to put this information in the next Bulletin.
Mr. Brenna stated that the brochures should be returned from the
printer by June 4th.

issue vote.
