presided and the following members

Minutes of the May 27th Regular Meeting were approved as written.
SCHEID PARK
Mr. Brenna reviewed the Scheid Park situation with members present.
A situation exists whereby the north portion of Scheid Park has
been severed by a County Highway therefore leaving a small piece
of land. This parcel of land is at present under contention between
the Village of Golden Valley and the Scheid Family, the original
donors. When the County Highway severed the park area, the severed
portion was dedicated park property, The Scheid Family, who
dedicated the property, now wish to be repaid for the area no longer
usable for park property. The Village of Golden Valley has, or is,
negotiating with the Scheid Family, and the restitution involves
that severed parcel of land, except that portion which the Park &
Recreation Commission deems necessary for a walkover bridge outramp.
At the Park & Recreation Commission meeting of May 27, 1965, the
Commission voted unanimously that the severed portion of land be
retained as park property for development as may be deemed desire -
able in the future. After the May 27th meeting, our recommendation
was sent to Mr. Ulstad and he asked for a meeting with the Park
& Recreation Commission at our meeting of June 24, 1965.

PARK DEVELOPMENT
Mr. Brenna mentioned that approximately $5,000 of the X18,000 which
the Village of Golden Valley transfered for our use in park construc-
tion from mid-May to late June has been used. Backstops have gone
up at Wesley, Woodlawn, and Yosemite Parks. Fill has been brought in
at Woodlawn and Natchez Park. The baseball diamond is currently
being constructed at Wesley Park. The banks at Scheid Park have again
been seeded.
SUMMER PROGRAM
Mr. Brenna recapped each of the summer activities that are presently
under way. Enrollment and attendance appear up in every activity.
A more accurate count will be brought forth at our July meeting.
MR. ULSTAD
At this time Mr. Ulstad addressed the Park & Recreation Commission
relative to the Scheid Park problem. Mr. Ulstad stated that the
Village would like to make restitution with the Scheid Family by
arranging a transfer of the severed property back to them, but
leaving a portion of same for a walkover bridge offramp. After Con-
siderable discussion, Dr. Petersen moved to approve the disposition
or transfer of this north protion of Scheid Park that has been
severed by CSAH No. 66, but reserve a 50 foot strip of land west of
and paralleling Regent Avenue North to be used for the prime pur-
pose of building a footbridge.
The motion was seconded by Dr. Yamahiro. The motion carried with
one member voting no.
Dr Yamahiro moved that the Park & Recreation Commission meet July
8, 1965, a Special Meeting devoted to Scheid Park. The meeting
will lay the foundation in acquiring the footbridge. The motion
was seconded and carried unanimously.
The next Regular Meeting will be held Thursday, July 29, 1965.
A motion was entertained for adjournment at 10:00 p.m.
