GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION CONMISSION
July 29, 1965
The regular meeting of the Golden Valley Para & Recreation Commission
was held on Thursday, July 29, 1965, at 7:00 p.m. at the Gdden Valley
Civic Center, 7800 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Chairman Laura Scheffler presides' and the following members were
present: John Sullivan and Ray Petersen. Iembers absent: John Byrnes,
Stan Anderson, Gene Roell>e, and Roy Yamahiro. Also present: John
Brenna, director of Parks & Recreation; Mable Pearson, playground
director; Bill Bossert, Little League representative; Lloyd Roepi:e,
park maintenance foi!Ean; and Dolores Peterson, secretary.
There being no quorum present no official business was undertaken.
LITTLE LEAGUE FIELD
Mr Bill Bossert, representing the Little League, appeared before the
Commission to request a Little League diamond be developed at Lions
Park. He reviewed the present Little League Program in Golden Valley
and expressed the need for more facilities in order to accommodate
more individuals who would lime to take part in the program. Discussion
and examination of Lions Park layout plans in relation tothe possible
diamond followed.
Chairman Scheffler thanked Mr Bossert and assured him the Commission
would act on his request at a future meeting at which a quorum would
be present.
SUMMER PROGRAM
Mabel Pearson, summer playground supervisor, appeared to review summer
pare activities for the Commission. She explained the various phases
of the program: special events, theme for each week, camp for a day,
excursions and tournaments, and also showed pictures taken of events
wlich had already taken place.
MR ULSTAD
Mr Roger K Ulstad, Village Manager, reported to the Commission members
present that agroup of citizens from West Urban Area had requested to
appear before the Council to discuss the need for a footbridge across
CSAH #66 to provide safe access to Scheid Park. He stated that this
group would be present at the Village Council Meeting August 3rd.
SUP4YJr'R CONSTRUCTION
Lloyd Roepke, park maintenance foreman, explained the construction
to date since the passing of the $185,000 bond issue. He reported
the following developments:
YOSMTITE: Installation of drain system, sprinkling system, and partial
seeding.
SCHEID: Installation of underdrain system, proposed sprinkling system
(work to begin July 30th)

WESLEY: Seeded, 1 ball diamond, 2 backstops and team benches installed
Yr Roepl-�e also explained plans for seed, trees, and backstops at Lions,
construction to begin in another week and a half.
BUDGET
YX Brenna distributed copy of the 1966 Prorosed Budget to each
Commission member present, explained each capital outlay request and
large increases in any areas.
SCHEID PARK
Mr Brenna Brought forth the following figures concerning footbridges:
Crosstown (801) - $30,000
CSAH #66 (50t) - $20,000 to $25,000 (estimate)
Chairman Scbeffler reported speaking with Mr Ulstad concerning salaries
in. the Park & Recr•eation Department.
