GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
September 30, 1965
A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Park & Recreation Commission
was held on Thursday, September 30, 1965, at 7:00 p.m. at the
Golden Valley Civic Center, 7800 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley,
Minnesota. Chairman Laura Scheffler presided and the following
members were present: John Sullivan, Ray Peterson, John Byrnes,
Stan Anderson, and Gene Roelke. Members Absent: Roy Yamahiro.
Also present were John Brenna, Director and Dolores Peterson,
secretary.
Minutes of the August 26, 1965, regular meeting were approved
as written.
UPDATE BOARD MANUALS
Mr. Brenna distributed new material for the members' manuals.
PARK CONSTRUCTION
Mr. Brenna reported that very little work had been done in oir
park system due to the inclement weather but some 65 coniferous
trees have been planted at Yosemite, Wesley and Scheid Park,
plus playground equipment has been installed in Natchez and
Yosemite. Plans for the remainder of the construction season,
calls for the installation of the sanitary sewer at Scheid Park
and the seeding of the outfield, plus the final grading of Lions
Athletic Field. 200 decidious trees will also be planted this
fall at Wesley, Yosemite and Scheid Parks.
SCHEID PARK
Mrs. Scheffler brought forth a brochure of pre -fab footbridges
that her husband had obtained. It was suggested that we send
the information to Mr. Fisher of the County Highway Department.
FALL & WINTER PROGRAM
Mr. Brenna explained that the activities contained in the Fall &
Winter brochure were the same as last year.
GOLDEN VALLEY SCHOOL BOARD
Mr. Brenna reported that the school board would like a report on
the number of activities, hours of use, etc. of the school's
facilities. A meeting has been set for October 19, 1965.
NATIONAL RECREATION CONFERENCE
National Recreation Conference will be held in Minneapolis this
year. Mr. Brenna distributed a copy of the agenda for those

board members interested. The Conference will run - October 4 -
8. Those interested should contact Mr. Brenna so he can
register the members at the conference.
SECRETARY
Mr. Brenna mentioned that Mrs. Dolores Peterson would be leaving
effective tonight. All board members wished her well and thanked
her for her devoted work.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
Next meeting will be October 28, 1965, at 7:00 p.m.
