A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Park & Recreation Commission
was held on Thursday, June 30,1966, at 7:00 p.m, at the Golden
Valley Civic Center, 7800 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley,
Minnesota. Chairman Roelke presided and the following members
were present: Stan Anderson, Raymond Peterson, Daniel Oukrop and
John Sullivan. Members Absent:: Laura Scheffler and John Byrnes.
Also present were John L. Brenna, Director, and Dolores Peterson,
secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the May 26, 1966, meeting were approved as written.
HAMPSHIRE PARK
Mr. Brenna made mention that the four lots under condemnation
proceedings will take approximately three months before said
parcels become part of Hampshire Park. Mr. Brenna mentioned that
the fill which Mr. Tom DeCola has offered is presently tied up,
due to the lack of acquiring certain slope easements from
bordering residents. At such time when the above is rectified,
we will then proceed with filling Hampshire Park.
BROOKVIEW GOLF CLUB
Mr. Brenna pointed out that three contingencies remain before
said Golf Club could be acquired.
1. Approval by the Brookview Golf Club general membership
2. Federal approval
3. Voter approval
At this point Mr. Brenna explained the purchase price and other
pertinent details relative to the acquisition of the Brookview
Golf Club. Mr. Brenna mentioned that he had spoken to the League
of Women Voters and the Golden Valley Jaycees about the possible
acquisition of Brookview Golf Club and in turn, both organizations
mentioned that we should stress the swimming pool, clubhouse, and
community center along with the Golf Club in our future publicity.
The Brookview Golf Club general membership will vote Tuesday,
July 12th on the question, whether to stay or sell their facility.
SCHEID PARK
Mr. Brenna once again reviewed the Scheid Park situation. Stan
Anderson instructed Mr. Brenna to find cost estimates for a
pedestrian overpass relative to the Scheid Park situation. After
lengthy discussion by members present, it was the consensus that
a meeting between the Park & Recreation Commission and the Village
Council be executed as soon as possible.

CONSTRUCTION 1966
At this time, Mr. Lloyd Roepke, our park foreman, brought forth
the report on the construction to date. Mr Roepke mentioned the
underdrain and water system that is going in at Lions Club Park,
additional fill at Natchez and Woodlawn Parks, the completion
of filling and grading at South Tyrol Park and the inclusion of
playground equipment at Wesley, Yosemite, Natchez, and Woodlawn
Parks. Mr. Roepke mentioned he hoped to complete the south end
of Wesley Park, the fi l ling at Hampshire Park and the placing of
hard surface areas at Wesley, Natchez, Woodlawn and Yosemite
Parks this summer.
SUMMER PROGRAM
Mr. Brenna gave a brief rundown of the summer activities underway
at the present time. Attendance figures at all parks and
activities are up considerably over last year. Much of the atten-
dance increase is due to the new equipment and in general the
more park -like appearance at each area.
PARK PLANNING LAW
Chairman Roelke asked what has been done in reference to the
new Park Planning Law. Mr. Brenna mentioned the program as out-
lined was waiting for our new planner's thoughts before being
presented to the Village Council. The new planner starts July
1, 1966. As soon after as he can become acquainted with the
subject, the Planning Law will be brought forth once again.
A motion was entertained for adjournment at 8:30 p.m.
