September 29, 1966.
A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Park & Recreation Commission
was held on Thursday, September 29, 1966, at 7:00 P.M. at the Golden
Valley Civic Center, 7800 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Chairman Roelke presided and the following members were present:
John Byrnes, Raymond Petersen, John Sullivan, Stan Anderson.
Members absent: Laura Scheffler, Daniel Oukrop. Also present:
John L Brenna, Director, Phyllis Jordahl, Secretary.
MOVED by Stan Anderson, seconded by John Sullivan to approve the
minutes of August 25, 1966, as mailed carried unanimously.
SCHEID PARK BRIDGE
That part of Scheid park which lies to the north of CSAH 66
bordering Regent Avenue North on the east and running 130 feet
to the west along CSAH 66 was recommended by the Park & Recreation
Commission to be saved and used for park purposes ultimately for
the use of a pedestrian bridge off -ramp.
It now seems that the above mentioned area is being recommended for
resitutition to the Scheid Family. There remains a portion of land

At this time Mr. Brenna reported that the contract for the hauling
of fill for Hampshire Park was let. 25,000 yards of fill, more or
less, will be placed on Hampshire whereby filling the park to
grade.
GOLF COURSE
Mr. Brenna reported that the Golf Committee had met last week
regarding the Bro okview Course. It seems that the Federal Government
has placed a low priority on Revenue Producing Open Land areas.
The Committee has had correspondence from Congressman Clark
McGregor on this matter and he advised we wait for a week or two
and then make our decision. The Committee will then come forth
with a recommendation to us regarding the Golf Course situation.

After considerable discussion, it was the consensus of
the Park &
Recreation Commission that test borings be made
at both
locations,
Regent Avenue North at CSAH 66 and Toledo Avenue
North
at CSAH 66.
The borings would help tell whether or not additional
costs might
arise due to a possible relocation. Mr. Brenna
was
instructed
to proceed with the test borings and report back
with
the results.

FALL AND WINTER PROGRAM
Mr. Brenna brought forth the Fall & Winter Program. One new
activity has been added, Senior Mens Touch Football. Other
than that, the program remains the same.
SCHEID PARK
Mr. Brenna made mention that he had made contact with Mr. Lee, the
County Administrator regarding the pedestrian bridge matter. Mr.
Lee requested cost estimates of the bridge, attendance figures at
parks with a similar situation, future programs and our antici-
pated attendance. With the above ammunition, Mr. Lee would then
approach the County Board and ask for some monetary consideration
for the Scheid Park Pedestrian Bridge.
GLENDALE IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION
Messers W. L. Hayes, Herb Lang and Earl H. A. Isensee, appeared
before the Park & Recreation Commission and asked the Commission
to take over as park property that property located at Ardmore
Drive and Glenwood Avenue South. The Park & Recreation Commission
asked many questions regarding this small parcel and how it would
affect our overall park system. Many pros and cons were brought
forth. The discussion ended whereby a more extensive investigation
would be given the area by the Commission and a recommendation
would be brought forth at our next meeting.
PARK TOUR
Mr. Brenna asked members of the Park & Recreation Commission if
they would be interested in a tour of our present park system
now that many of the 1965 Bond Issue items have been completed.
Mr. Brenna also mentioned that it would be nice if the Village
Council be invited. Dr. Petersen stated he would like the
Council and Commission to meet some Saturday during the month of
October, to be worked out by Mr. Brenna.
PARK ORDINANCE
Mr. Brenna brought forth the Park Ordinance which the Park &
Recreation Commission has been utilizing as policy for the last
three years and requested that the Ordinance be sent onto the
Village Council for adoption. Mr. Brenna stated that with the
growth of our Park System there have been amany violations regarding
parked cars, debris, the consuming of intoxicating beverages, etc.
The Park & Recreation Commission requested that the Ordinance be
sent to the Village Council for adoption.
A motion was enter ined for adjournment at 9:45 P.M.
