GOLDEN VALLEY PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION
December 29, 1966
A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Park & Recreation
Commission was held on Thursday, December 29, 1966, at 7:00 p.m.
at the Golden Valley Civic Center, 71300 Golden Velley Road,
Golden Valley, Minnesota. Chairman Roelke presided and the
following members were present: Stanley Anderson, Raymond
Petersen, Laura Scheffler, and John Sullivan. Members absent:
John Byrnes and Daniel Oukrop. Also present were John L. Brenna,
Director, and Phyllis Jorddnl, secretary.
MOVED by Scheffler, seconded by Anderson, carried unanimously
to approve the minutes of November 22, 1966.
MILLER'S MEADOW
Mr. Brenna stated that the purchase from the Miller Family
has been consumated. The area involves two lots bordering
Medley Hills Park on the north and Ensign Avenue on the east.
PARK ORDINANCE
The Village Council passed our Pack Ordinance at their regular
meetin.,-i on December 17,1966. It is now an official document.
Much discussion ensued concerning snow mobiles. It was the
consensus of Board Members present to post the areas where snow
mobiles are not to be permitted.
REES THOMPSON SCROGGINS
The purchase price for the four lots on Radisson Road and
Turnpike Road is $15,000. Discussion ensued concerning ways
and means of acquiring said property. It was the concensus that
Mr. Brenna contact Rees Thompson Scroggins and discuss the
proposed price in more detail.
HENNEPIN COUNTY GOLDEN VALLEY JOINT PROJECT FOOTBRIDGE
Mr. Brenna reported that a meeting next Wednesday with the
Hennepin County Administrator would hopefully bring forth
some information concerning the CSAH 66 safe crossing situation.
TERM EXPIRATION
Commission members whose terms will expire at the end of
December are Elroy Roelke and Laura Scheffler. The Commission
asked Mr. Zoelke if he would serve another term on the Commission
and he stated he would. Laura Scheffler asked that the
Commission accept her resignation. After much disc..assion it
was MOVED by Sullivan, seconded by Peterson to recognize her
good service to the Commission and acknowledge her decision to
not seek reappointment with regret.

It was then MOVED by Sullivan, seconded by Anderson, to submit
the following men to the Council for their consideration to
replace Commission Member Scheffler:
Roy Yamahiro, who has served one year but left the Commission
because he moved fron the Village, is once again a resident.
Other candidates submitted were Thomas Tart & Thomas Jackson.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Stanley Anderson moved that in light of Mr. Roelke's close
relationship with the Brookview acquisition, Mr. i?oelke should
chair the Park & Recreation Commission during 1967- It was
unanimous.
The Commission then nominated Stanley Anderson Es vice-chairman
for the year 1967.
WINTER PROGRAM
Mr. Brenna briefed the Commission on the status of our '4inter
Program. All activities have brought forth a tremendous turnout.
Our swimming program at Glenwood Hills Hospital is again filled
to capacity and the Department is presently maintaining 15
skatino rinks and two hockey rini<s.
GOLF COURSE
Chairman Roelke and Mr. Brenna answered questions relative to
the Brookview Recreation Area. Members present stated they
would 1 i'<e & complete: briefing on the Brookview matter before
the next regular meeting.
A motion was entertained for adjournment at 9:30 p.m.
