August 8, 1967
A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Park & Recreation Commission
was held on Thursday, August 3, 1967, at 7:00 P.M. at the Golden
Valley Civic Center, 7800 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley, Minne-
sota. Vice -Chairman Stan Anderson presided and the following members
dere present: Petersen, Su7.2ivan, Byrnes. Absent: Oukrop, Roelke.
Alos present were Director John Brenna, Secretary Phyllis Jordahl.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the June ?9, 1967, regular meeting were approved as
mailed.
SCHEID PARK
The follo-iing delegation of 12 parents from the north side of CSAH 66,
which is to the north
of Scheid Park were present and asked what was
being done insofar as
a safe crossway to Scheid Park for their children:

Mr. Brenna explained that the Park & Recreation Commission had sent
four draft proposals on pedestrian bridge designs to the Hennepin
County Bridge Engineer
three weeks ago. Upon a call to the bridge
engineer last week, the engineer stated that he had studied the
proposals and favored one of them. He made appropriate changes on
the design to conform with County Standards. The Engineer stated
that he will meet with
the County Administrator on August 7th.
Mr. Brenna stated that
he will call the highway administrator on
August 8th and ask his
decicion. Any further information will be
sent to the delegation
of parents who were present. As an inter-
mediary step, Mr. Brenna
will post signs and send flyers home with
the children at the park designating the crossing times wieri a
traffic guard will be on duty.

PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION
Vice Chairman Anderson apprized the Commission of the Council
appointed Study Group recommendation regarding the restructuring
of the Park and Recreation Commission.
BROOKVIEW RECREATION AREA
Mr. Brenna informed the Commission that Minnesota Lumber & Wrecking
of St Paul have entered into an agreement with the Village of Golden
Valley to fill the Brookview Park Area. It is estimated that the
fill operation will take about ten months to complete. There is no
charge involved.
Mr. Brenna presented the Commission with a contract from Brauer and
Associates for the grading, lay -out and planting scheme for the
Brookview Park Area. After some discussion, it was moved by Byrnes,
seconded by Petersen and unanimously carried that the Park &
Recreation Commission recommend to the Village Council that they
enter into contract with Brauer and Associates for the grading,
lay -out and planting scheme for the Brookview Recreation Park Area
excluding the golf course and not to exceed $3,000.00. This will
facilitate the proper filling of the area.
SUMMER PROGRAM
Mr. Brenna informed members present of summer activities and
attendance at each.
BUDGET, 1968
Mr. Brenna stated that the preliminary budget is ready for
Commission review. Vice Chairman Anderson called for a budget
meeting on August 14, 1967 at 7 p.m. at Lhe Village Hall.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
