5-28-1968REGULAR MEETING OF THE GOLDEN VALLEY PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION May 28, 1968 A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Park and Recreation Commission was held Tuesday, May 28, 1968 at 7:00 p.m. in the Public Safety Building, 7800 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley, Minnesota. Chairman Anderson presided, and the following members were present: Roelke, Sullivan, Oukrop, Tart, Hammer, Kahn, Brown, Byrnes, Petersen, Neuman, Fischer, Forster, Herje. Members absent: Reed. Also presnet: Director John Brenna, Secretary Lois Schaaf. APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOVED by Kahn, seconded by Hammer, unanimously carried to approve the minutes of April 25, 1968 with one correction noted. SCHEID PARK BRIDGE Chairman Anderson read a letter and the agreement from Mr. Lee, the Hennepin County Administrator, regarding the Scheid Park Bridge. After cnnsideralbe discussion, it was MOVED by Kahn, seconded by Herje to defer the above item until clarification is received on the following paragraphs of said agreement, Paragraph #4 - Fencing Paragraph #7 - Liability Paragraph #8 - Construction Cost, and if said clarification can be brought forth at the June 11th joint meeting of the Brookview Sub -Committee and Recreation Sub -Committee and satisfied by said committee members, the Agreement can then be acted on at that time in behalf of the over-all Commission. STATE PARK & RECREATION ASSOCIATION SPRING CONFERENCE Dave Kahn and Larry Fischer reported on the Conference in Owatonna, Minnesota that took place on May 2nd and 3rd. Their consensus being one which founded a close relationship between Directors and Board Members from around the state; they also expressed a very enjoyable experience by so attending. PUBLIC MEETING - TRAFFIC PATTERN - WESTERN AVENUE At 8:00 p.m. Chairman Stan Anderson turned the meeting over to Vice - Chairman Dave Kahn, who called the Public Meeting to order. Thirty- eight (38) residents were in attendance. Vice -Chairman Kahn explained the road patterns as they relate to the area in question and read a letter from the Village Engineer and Village Planner. Much discussion ensued. After a briefing by Mr. Lowell Odland, the Village Engineer and comments by Mr. Otto Schmidt, the Village Planner, many ideas came forth from the residents present. Such ideas as: May 28, 1968 Page 2 a boulevard road, next to the present Western Avenue; a road from Highway 55 south to the Brookview parking lot, a complete stoppage of traffic culminating in a cul-de-sac at the western end of Western Avenue, and that stop signs should be put in at the corners of Western Avenue and Western Terrace. Mr. Odland stated that he would place said stop signs at these designated corners. Mr. Brenna stated that when the final plans for the Park are com- leted, he would send a card to residents in the area. Mr. Kahn thanked the residents in attendance for their many fine ideas, and the Public Meeting adjourned at 9:50 p.m. CORE CITY PROGRAM At this time Mr. Brenna mentioned that he was working with the Northside Settlements on a summer interaction program. Mr. Brenna stated that when he had more detailed information, a complete des- cription will be brought forth. SUMMER PROGRAM Mr. Brenna brought forth a brief recap of all summer programs and their starting dates. PROGRAM FOR MENTALLY RETARDED Mr. Brenna mentioned that the third week of the Day Camp Program will be devoted to the mentally retarded youngsters in Golden Valley. There being no further business, it was MOVED by Roelke, seconded by Petersen, unanimously carried to adjourn the meeting at 10:20 p.m. Chairman Stan Anderson 1 Vi e -Chairman Dave Kahn
