June 27, 1968
A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Park and Recreation Commission
was held Thursday, June 27, 1968 at 7:00 p.m. in the Public Safety
Building, 7800 Golden Valley Road, Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Chairman Anderson presided, and the following members were preeent:
Kahn, Roelke, Oukrop, Tart, Hammer, Brown, Petersen, Neuman, Reed,
Forster, Herje. Members absent: Sullivan, Byrnes, Fischer. Also
present: Butch Schmidt, Golf Instructor; Buzz Flolid, Day Camp
Supervisor; Tom Benepe, Baseball Supervisor; Barbara Olson, Swimming
Supervisor; Wendy Martin, Tennis Instructor; Director John Brenna,
Secretary Lois Schaaf.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
MOVED by Peterson, seconded by Kahn, unanimously carried to approve
the minutes of M -y 28, 1968 with one correction noted: paragraph 1,
line 3, under Scheid Park Bridge to read as follows - "MOVED by Kahn,
seconded by Here, carri I ed unanimously to defer, etc."
SCHEID PARK BRIDGE
Mr. Brenna read the changes in the Scheid Park Bridge Agreement. It
was MOVED by Tart, seconded by Forster, carried unanimously that a
release be sent to the Golden Valley Sun stating that the Commission
had approved said Agreement and sent it on to the Village Council.
BROOKVIEW SUB -COMMITTEE REPORT
Dr. Petersen reported on the last two meetings of the Brookview Sub -
Committee. MOVED by Tart, seconded by Kahn, carried unanimously
that the Commission should ratify the decision of the Brookview and
Recreation Sub -Committees and go on record as recommending Gingold
and Pink as architects to the Village Council.
SUMMER SUPERVISORS
Mr. Brenna introduced the Summer Supervisors, and each gave a brief
summary of their programs.
MOVED by Kahn, seconded by Reed, carried unanimously to send a
letter of commendation to all Supervisors in the Summer Program.
RECREATION SUB -COMMITTEE REPORT (INTERACTION PROGRAMS)
Mr. Brenna reported on the June 11th Sub -Committee meeting at which
it was MOVED by Tart, seconded by Herje, carried unanimously that
we enter the interaction program as outlined. MOVED by Tart, seconded
by Kahn, carried unanimously to accept the Recreation Sub -Committee's ,
recommendation.
POSSIBLE PARK SITE
Mr. Brenna explained that the Village had acquired approximately 4.5

acres of tax -forfeited property on Duluth Street at Pennsylvania
Avenue.
MOVED by Herje, seconded by Kahn, carried unanimously that we request
the above mentioned property to be designated as a park area.
PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION TOUR
It was decided that Mr. Brenna would notify the Commission as to the
date of the tour of the Day Camp site and Parks.
It was suggested by Mr. Kahn that the following be put on the agenda
for the next regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission -
discussion of ratification of decisions by Sub -Committees.
There being no further business, it was MOVED by Neuman, seconded
by Oukrop, carried unanimously to adjourn the meeting at 9:45 p.m.
