3-27-19691 1 REGULAR MEETING OF THE GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION March 27, 1969 A regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 1969 at Brookview Municipal Community Center, 8200 Wayzata Boulevard, Golden Valley, Minnesota. Chairman Kahn presided, and the following members were present: Brand, Brown, Fischer, Forster, Hammer, berje, Jodan, Kelby, Oukrop, Petersen, Redd, Sullivan, Tart, Weisenburger. Members absent: none. Also present: Dave Duff, Suburban Sun Newspapers; Barbara Olson, Swimming Pool Manager; Mrs. Many Jenkins, Brookview Women's Golf Association Presi- dent; Jerry Green, Brookview Men's Golf Association President; Ross Stevens, Golf Professional; Richard Rosland, Assistant Recreation Director; John Brenna, Park and Recreation Director; Lois Schaaf, Sec. APRROVAL OF MINUTES MOVED by Brown, seconded by Reed to approve the Minutes of the Regular meeting of February 27, 1969 with the following correction: meeting place to be referred to as Brookview Municipal Community Center. Carried unanimously. INTRODUCTIONS Chairman Kahn introduced and welcomed all visitors to the Commission Meeting. He also introduced new Commission members Malvin Weisenbur- ger and Raymond Brand. OLD BUSINESS OPEN HOUSE COMMITTEE REPORT Kathy Herje reported that the Committee (Open House) wished to Change "open house" to "Brookview Dedication". The date has been set for Sundey, May 25, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with the dedication ceremony to take place at 3:30 p.m. (See attached minutes as to committee assignments and details). Summer program brochures also to be available that day. RECREATION SUB -COMMITTEE REPORT Recreation Sub -Committee Chairman Burt Brown reported on their March 10th meeting. It was MOVED by Brown, seconded by Petersen to accept the Sub -Committee's recommendation that fees previously agreen j pon (10 swims for $2.50) and that at least for the start of summer, there be two separate open swimming session -- one afternoon and one evening -- per day (three on Saturday); and that the Park and Recrea- tion Department have the authority to adjust during the season to three sessions per day if necessary to maximize the number of people able to use the pool. Carried unanimously. MOVED by Forster, seconded by Jodan, carried unanimously to continue the Interaction Program started last year. March 27, 1969 PARK SUB -COMMITTEE REPORT Page -2- Chairman Glen Read reported that a Park Tour has been scheduled for Saturday, April 12 at 9 a.m. Meeting place is Brookview Municipal Community Center. After a briefing by Mr. Brenna, a bus will take everyone to various parks in the Village. All Commission members are invited to attend. BROOKVIEW SUB -COMMITTEE REPORT Chairman Tom Tart reported that as of this date, 482 Patron Cards have been issued; out of 182 men's lockers, 160 have been rented; and of 25 women's lockers, 23 are rented. It was MOVED by Tart, seconded by Hammer that all by-laws or pro- cedures and subsequent changes of all groups operating out of this (Brookview) complex be approved by the Golden Valley Park and Recreation Commission. Carried unanimously. NEW BUSINESS DIRECT08'S REPORT Brookview Construction -- Mr. Bhenna showed and explained a proposed layoutot the course (from Brauer and Associates) showing an overall plan for the Golf Course. MOVED by Reed, seconded by Tart, to accept proposed golf course plans. Carried unanimously. At this time, Mr. Brenna apprised the Commission of the Village Council's approval for the construction of a ditch through the Brookview Municipal Golf Course for the relief of storm water until such time as our overall ponding project is completed. He also informed the Commission of the Village Council's decision to install an automatic sprinkling system in the Brookview Municipal Community Center. Park Development -- Mr. Brenna briefed the Commission as to monies avaia ree7oF-Park construction for the summer of 1969. Summer Program -- At this time Mr. Brenna stated that applica- tions had beeF received for summer positions. All supervisors are preparing their summer plans. Villa a Employees_ -- Mr. Brenna stated that the Village CounciTT�sanctioned the issuance of Patron Cards_ to Village Employees living out of the Village limits. Scheid Park Bridge -- Mr. Brenna stated that the plans and speci ications are complete, and the County contemplates the bid letting for May 15th. Golden Valley Women's Club -- Mr. Brenna stated that the Golden Valley women -s Clu was successful in their recent promotion in behalf of our Teen Center. He mentioned that the Women's Club will have representatives at our next regular Commission meeting. n 1 1 1 March 27, 1969 Page -3- Caddie School -- The Commission was informed that a Caddie School will be started if enough interest is shown. The school will be conducted by the Golf Professional. Business Manager - After a brief outline of the duties and responsibilities of a Business Manager for the Brookview complex, Mr. Brenna brought forth his recommendation for Mrs. Beverly May to fill the position. After some discussion it was MOVED by Hammer, seconded by Jodan, carried unanimously to recommend to the Village Manager that Mrs. Beverly May be hired for the Business Manager.
