September 24, 1970
A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Park and Recreation Board
was held on Thursday, September 24, 1970 at 9:00 p.m. at the
Brookview Municipal Community Center, 8200 Wayzata Boulevard, Golden
Valley, Minnesota. Chairman Fischer presided, and the following
members were present: Tart, Herje, Brown, Petersen, Kelby, Brand.
Members absent: Kahn, Hammer, Others present: John Brenna, Park
and Recreation Director.
MINUTES
MOVED by Petersen, seconded by Tart to approve the minutes of the
regular meeting of August 27, 1970 and the Special Meeting of
September 14, 1970 as mailed. Carried.
WINTER PROGRAM
At this time Mr. Brenna brought forth a brief recap of the winter
program. Two new programs will be initiated this winter - 1, Broom -
ball for men and women and 2. Competitive Volleyball. The two new
programs will be self-sustaing.
BROOKVIEW CONSTRUCTION
At this time Mr. Brenna briefed the Board as to current development.
1. Driving and Practice Range - the driving range parking lot has
recievedits base material and will be blacked -topped along with the
main parking lot during the week of October 12th. The hitting pads
will be poured next week, and the outfield of the driving and prac-
tice range has been disked and seeded.
2. Golf Car Storage Building - The final grading and graveling
arouBU-TtTie storage ui ing as been completed. Final inspection by
the builder and architect will take place next week,
3, Main Parking Lot - The mein parking lot will be resurfaced
during the wee o ctober 12th,
4, Park and Recreation Shop Parking Lot Entrance Road - The shop
parking lot and entrance road will be black-topped-ED—ring the week
of October 12th,
5, Brookview Park - Brookview Park has recieved its under-
ground water system and seed. The picnic tables and Bar B Q's will
be in place by mid October.
6. Golf Course - The trees lining No. 1 fairway will be moved to
delineate e new driving and practice range by mid October. 2 of

No. 2 and No. 3 fairways will be disked and dormant seeded come
mid October. No. 3 tee will be re -built in mid October.
PARK CONSTRUCTION
Mr. Brenna stated that both Lakeview Heights and Medley Hills Parks
have been filled and rough graded. The tennis courts at Scheid
Park will be completed by the middle of October. The hard surface
area and swing set in South Tyrol Park will be constructed by mid
October.
PROPOSED ACQUISITION (RICE LAKE)
At this time Mr. Brenna stated that Mr. Omans is presently negotia-
ting for the purchase of the Rice Lake area. Mr. Brenna said that
he hbd sent a reply to Mrs. Kane, who had inquired as to the
possibility of the Village acquiring the above property for Park
and Recreation purposed.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at
11:30 p.m.
