GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION BOARD
July 29, 1971
A regular meeting of the Golden Valley Park and Recreation Board
was held on Thursday, July 29, 1971 at 7:30 p.m. at the Brookview
Community Center, 8200 Wayzata Boulevard, Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Chairman Herje presided, and the following members were present:
Brand, Brown, Gergen, Hammer, Petersen, Hart. Absent: Fischer,
Shinder, Also present: Carla Rohweder, Golden Valley High School
Tennis Coach; Corey Bakken, Golf Operations Manager; John L.
Brenna, Park and Recreation Director; Lois Schaaf, Secretary.
MINUTES
It was MOVED by Petersen, and seconded by Tart to approve the June
24, 1971 meeting as mailed.
LAKEVIEW HEIGHTS PARK
At this time, a contingent of citizens from the Lakeview Heights Park
agea presented a petition to the Park and Recreation Board asking
for the completion of Lakeview Heights Park, At this time, Mr.
Brenna explained that which is scheduled for this construction
season, from the 1971 Park Construction fund.
Mr. Brenna also explained that the Park and Recreation Board is
asking for a five mill levy for Park Construction in 1972, and
then explained what could or couldn't happen relative to the Park
and Recreation Board's request.
At this time the citizens from Lakeview Heights stated that they
would support an additional mill increase for the completion of
their park.
D. F. L. OCTOBER FEST
At this time, Mr. Brenna brought forth a request from the Golden
Valley D. F. L. Club asking for the use of the Brookview Community
Center to hold their October Fest activity on Saturday, October
9, 1971.
Mr. Brenna stated that his only objection to their request was
their dispensing beer on the premises. After little discussion,
it was MOVED by Hammer and seconded by Brand to abide by our
policies set forth for the Community Center and refuse the D. F. L.
Club the right to dispense beer. Carried.

TENNIS COURTS (GOLDEN VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL)
At this time, Carla Rhoweder, Golden Valley Tennis Coach, and
citizens interested in tennis, brought forth a request for addi-
tional tennis courts at the Golden Valley High School complex.
At this time, Chairman Herje explained to the people present that
our obligation at this time was to the people in the Northwest
portion of Golden Valley, and that our next proposed battery of
courts would be located at Wesley Park. Mrs. Herje also informed
the group present, that the Golden Valley School Board was very
well satisfied with our offer to help with the cost of construction
of two tennis courts at the High School complex.
TOUR OF VILLAGE (EXPLANATION OF THE GOLDEN VALLEY "MASTER PLAN")
At this time Board member Brown related his experience relative to
the bus tour. Mr. Brown stated that there didn't seem to be a
"Master Plan", but instead, problem areas and natural areas within
the Village were expounded upon.
The next regular meeting to be held on Thursday, August 26, 1971
at 7:30 p.m.at the Brookview Municipal Community Center.
There being no further business, it was MOVED by Hammer, seconded
by Tart to adjourn the meeting at 9:45 p.m..
