GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
July 10, 1972
A Special Meeting of the Golden Valley Park and Recreation Commission
was held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 10, 1972 at the Brookview
Municipal Community Center, 8200 Wayzata Boulevard, Golden Valley.
Chairman Brown presided, and the following members were present:
Durda, Hammer, Kelby, Peterson. Members absent: Burmeister, Gergen,
Herje, Thrall. Also present: John L. Brenna, Park and Recreation
Director; Lois Schaaf, Secreatary.
MINUTES:
MOVED by Petersen, seconded by Kelby to approve the minutes of the
Regular Meeting of June 20, 1972. Carried.
GLENVIEW TERRACE PARK
After much discussion, it was MOVED by Petersen, seconded by Durda,
that that portion of Glenview Terrace park west of Zenith Avenue
be developed as a future Tot Lot, and that the ball diamond and play-
ground area development be placed on the east side of Zenith Avenue -
subject to the approval of the Minneapolis Park Board. Carried
unanimously,
SIGURD OLSON SCHOOL
It was MOVED by Petersen and seconded by Kelby that the Park and
Recreation Department would cooperate wherever possible with the
school's plans for the development of their environmental area.
Carried.
It was also the consensus of members present that the hill in the
southwest corner of Wildwood Park that is now apparently being used
by mini -bikers be retained because of its esthetic value and as a
sliding hill during the winter season.
It was also the consensus that the Park and Recreation Department
encourage the Police Department to discourage the use of mini -bikes
in.the park area as per the Village Park Ordinance.
BOND ISSUE
Chairman Brown informed the Commission that Council awarded them
523,800.00 to be used for visual aids and mailing fees for the forth-
coming neighborhood meetings.

After some discussion, it was MOVED by Hammer, seconded by Kelby
that September 12th be the date of the Bond Issue election.
Carried.
Chairman Brown and Director Brenna showed and explained the visual aid
for South Tyrol Park. Members of the Commission offered various ideas
to make the visual aids more self explanatory.
Members were informed that the dates of the neighborhood meetings will
be July 18, 19, 20, 24 and 25th. In order to have a good Commission
representation at each meeting, all members are requested to attend as
many meetings as possible. They will be contacted by the Park and
Recreation Department as to definite dates they will attend.
After some discussion, it was the consensus of members present that
representatives of the Golden Valley Trails Committee attend each
neighborhood meeting and explain in concept their urban trail pro-
posal for citizen reaction and input.
PARK BOND ISSUE (REVISED - ESTIMATE)
At this time, Mr. Brenna brought forth a revised estimate of
$840,000.00 after recapping each park's development.
NEXT REGULAR MEETING
The next Regular Meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission will
be on Thursday, July 27, 1972.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, it was MOVED by Kelby, seconded by
Hammer that the meeting be adjourned at 10:35 p.m. Carried.
