GOLDEN VALLEY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
July 27, 1972
A regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was held on
Thursday, July 27, 1972 at 7:30 p.m, at the Brookview Municipal Com-
munity Center, 8200 Wayzata Boulevard, Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Chairman Brown presided, and the following members were present:
Burmeister, Gergen, Hammer, Herje, Petersen. Members absent: Durda,
Kelby, Thrall. Also present were 20 residents concerned with the
Western Avenue extention; John Brenna, Park and Recreation Director;
Lois Schaaf, Secretary.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
MOVED by Petersen, seconded by Hammer to approve the minutes of the
Special Meeting of July 10, 1972 as mailed. Carried.
APPOINTMENT TO LIASON COMMITTEE (GENERAL MILLS)
Chairman Brown announced that he would ask Mrs. Herje to represent
the Park and Recreation Commission on the liason committee to meet
with General Mills, Inc. re: natural area.
WESTERN AVENUE EXTENTION
At this time, discussion took place with those present from the Lion's
Club Park area. After considerable discussion relative to the extension
of Western Avenue and its possible impact on Lion's Club Park, it was
MOVED by Brown that the Park and Recreation Commission go on record
with both the Village Council and the Planning Commission as strongly
recommending that no development of Western Avenue be proposed that
affect the Brookview Golf Course in any way. Seconded by Burmeister.
Carried unanimously.
It was also MOVED by Brown that we alter the tentative pian for Lion's
Club Park to NOT show the parking lot on the south side of the park.
Seconded by Burmeister; carried unanimously.
PARK COMPLETION PLANS - RE - NEIGHBORHOOD MEETINGS
At this time, the Park and Recreation Commission evaluated each park
in light of the fine citizen input Neighborhood meetings that were
held at the Brookview Community Center July 18, 19, 20, 24 and 25.
After an intensive review of all Village parks, the following changes
were made.

Lions Park
- Eliminate all softball lighting
- Add two tennis courts
- Delete parking lot - south end of park.
Woodlawn Park
- Add hockey rink (Temporary)
- Cut down on size of building.
- Add one tennis court and additional hard surface area.
Papoose Park
- Add additional
Glenview Terrace
trees and shrubs.

- Add two tennis courts with approval from the Minneapolis Park and
Recreation Commission.
Brookview Park
Cut cost of tennis shelter.
Seeman Park
- Renovate existing warming house.
At this time Chairman Brown asked Mr. Brenna to revise the proposed
bond issue figure in light of the above citizen input changes.
AUJOURNMENT
There being no othe* business, it was MOVED by Burmeister, seconded
by Petersen to adjourn the meeting at 11:30 p.m.
